This class invites dancers into a creative and process-driven exploration of choreography. Dancers will investigate how movement is made using the elements of dance, compositional structures, and the development of motifs and themes. Through improvisation and guided exercises, students will build a foundational understanding of choreographic tools while nurturing their own artistic voice and point of view. Dancers will create and perform original solos and small group pieces in a student-mounted winter show, and collaborate on a full-group work for the June recital. Dance experience required.

Creative Dance Class is an introduction to movement, body, and spatial awareness. Children will learn to listen to music and turn it into movement. They will learn different expressions of the body (sad, happy, etc.), body awareness (where are my feet and how can they move), and differences in movement (slow, fast, high, low). The teacher will use different themes in each class to keep them excited and intrigued, and sometimes use props as well. Beginner ballet terminology will also be incorporated.
Attire: Leotard of any color, tights or leggings, and ballet shoes or bare feet.
