Dear Dance Parents and Students:
As of May 31/2015 I completed my undergraduate degree in Physical
Education from the University of Alberta: Augustana Faculty with a major in Kinesiology and Sport Studies, and a minor in Psychology. I graduated with a GPA of 3.6 out of 4.0, and have been a three time recipient of the "Jason Lang Scholarship" for my second, third and fourth year of studies.
I am CPR-C certified and am a member of A.D.E.A. (Alberta Dance Educator’s Association) as well as Dance Safe Alberta.
I have had over 28 years of experience dancing and over 18 years of experience teaching. I have taken my dance training in Wainwright, Camrose and Edmonton. During my years attending University, I was employed by the Augustana Fitness Centre teaching Zumba® Fitness classes. I have also been a guest instructor at the University of Alberta Augustana, teaching for their Dance PAC (Physical Activity Course).
I am currently working towards obtaining my teacher certification for the Junior Tap Syllabus from the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association (CDTA).
I am dedicated to teaching my fitness/dance programs in a creative, positive, encouraging, motivating and safe environment and hope you will let me have the privilege to work with you. My main areas of focus will be on technique, injury prevention, self-esteem, and FUN! I am passionate about getting youth more active in society and keeping them active throughout life to keep them heathy and fit both physically and mentally.
I thank you for considering "Jayme's Fitness & Dance" for the 2026/ 2027 Season. I look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Jayme Foxwell
Jayme's Fitness & Dance
Jayme's Fitness & Dance (JFD) is a Recreational/Performance Dance and Fitness academy. We have also started to branch out into the competitive world. All classes are for the health, wellness and enjoyment of the student, focusing on injury prevention, technique and sport while providing a safe environment. I try to create an atmosphere that is both fun and disciplined and I aim to make dancing one of your child's best learning experiences. I will also provide my students with opportunities to perform in the community throughout the year. In 2019 we travelled to Edmonton with our Sr. Tap class to perform in the Dance Spectacular in the Winspear Centre. This is an event put on by ADEA where studios across Alberta come to perform together in a non-competitive setting, and was a lot of fun! This is very beneficial for Students in building their confidence and self-esteem. You can take any class if you have completed all registration forms (Registration form, Liability & Release form, Covid form and FOIA form) and have made your payments.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Behaviour and Class Expectations
It is my mission to provide quality programming that is safe, challenging and fun for everyone. It is the responsibility of all students to treat each other, as well as their instructor, with the upmost respect. Unprofessional behaviour will not be tolerated. This also includes arriving ready, prepared and on time. Parents and students/adults who do not support, respect and uphold the behaviour and policies of JFD may be asked to withdraw themselves and/or their family from the Academy. If they are asked to do so, they will forfeit their tuition.
If there is an issue with a student’s behaviour either to the instructor or fellow students, the following actions will take place:
1. It will first be discussed with the student. If the behaviour is not corrected,
2. A meeting will take place with the Student, Parent and Instructor. If this does not correct the issue and it happens a third time,
3. The student will then be dismissed from the Academy and they will forfeit their tuition.
Regular attendance is mandatory. Dance requires discipline and commitment. Being frequently absent or late for class not only affects that dancer's ability to perform, but it also effects and disrupts the group’s ability to perform as a whole. Please arrive on time ready for class. Dancers should arrive 10 minutes before class and sit quietly until class begins. Parents/Students should not interrupt or disrupt a class by entering the studio. Please make sure your child has used the washroom before coming to class, it is highly disruptive, distracting and a waste of instructional time for students to be leaving class to use the washrooms. Please inform the instructor of any
known absences in advance.
*Important: If your child misses more than 5 classes they will not be allowed to attend festival or perform at Recital (unless under extenuating circumstances, which it will then be left up to the Instructor’s discretion).
Student Placement Is At The Discretion Of The Instructor
The age of your child will be the main factor for determining placement, but there are other numerous factors that will also be taken into consideration. Everyone develops at their own rate. Technical ability or potential along with physical, emotional and mental factors all need to be taken into consideration. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's placement you can contact me and I will arrange to meet with you.
Workshops
We may on occasion give Students opportunities to participate in workshops with guest instructors. There is an additional fee to attend workshops, but they are not mandatory to attend.
Festivals and Dance Spectacular
In 2019 Miss Jayme took her Sr. Tap class “Reel Around the Sun” to perform in Edmonton at the Winspear Centre for “Dance Spectacular,” a show put on by ADEA (Alberta Dance Educators Association). It is not a competition, but rather a Show that is open to Academies across Alberta, to showcase their Dancers. It is held in February and we have found it to be a very positive experience for our Dancers.
We are planning to attend two festivals this year, "Dance to the Future" in Camrose, AB April 7-11, 2027 and “Plie Prep: Performing for a Purpose” which will run from April 22-25, 2027 in Morinville, AB. There are non-competitive categories for dancers who would like another opportunity to perform on stage, as well as a competitive category where dancers are marked and receive a medal. These are great opportunities for our Dancers to gain confidence performing on a big stage. The adjudicators are also wonderful at providing encouraging feedback to all dancers. (Additional fees are required to attend Festivals).
Withdrawal
Registration is only complete upon submission of ALL completed and signed forms. You are not fully registered until your fees are paid.
Upon registration, students and their parents are responsible for all fees associated with a full year of training. Students withdrawing at any time for a non-medical reason are not eligible for any refunds and remain liable for the full contract cost.
Refund of tuition (pro-rated) will be considered for students unable to continue in class due to severe injury or prolonged illness which prevents participation. Such considerations will be given when a request has been received in writing accompanied by a doctor’s report recommending withdrawal and stating the reason why.
Registration Costume & Tuition Payments
There is a $35.00 non-refundable Registration Fee per person (+GST). Every student is required to pay $35.00 as this is an annual fee and is required to help with administration costs. There will be a $25.00 service charge for all NSF cheques. Upon a second NSF check that person will be required to pay cash only for balance owing on tuition for the remainder of the year. The costume fee is $150.00 + GST per discipline (excluding Tinker Bell Ballet & Toddler Tap).
Registration fee and costume fee(s) are due upon registration. Class fees can be split up evenly into 3 or 6 equal payments.
The Tuition Fee can be paid with Credit Card (you can also set up auto-pay through the Parent Portal). E-transfers, cash or cheque are also still accepted.
*All fees are due to be paid in full by April 30th, 2027. If there any outstanding fees on May 1st, 2027, there will be a 10% charge added on to your balance.
All cheques are to be made out to “Jayme’s Fitness & Dance”.
Dress Code
Dress code is extremely important. It assists the instructor in the development of technique and proper body alignment, as well as detecting/preventing potential injuries. All Students must wear appropriate dance attire. Their hair must be secure and neatly off their face and neck. Students that do not comply will not be allowed to participate due to safety and liability. If a child comes to class unprepared, they will be asked to sit out of class.
Costumes
All dancers require a costume for each discipline they are enrolled in ($150.00 + GST). Costumes are ordered from Canada and the United States. Parents are liable for all costumes costs. Students will be measured in the Fall and costumes will then be ordered.
I try to keep Costumes in this range, but shipping is getting more and more expensive. If they exceed this, the remaining balance will be due no later than March 1st. Costumes will not be handed out until balance owing is paid.
Recital
Recital will be held during the weekend of May 28-30th, 2027. More information to come on this. Many hands make light work, and I will need ALL Parents to volunteer for various jobs for the Recital. The Recital is the BIG event students look forward to at the end of the year and is their time to shine and show their Family and Friends what they have learned and accomplished for their year of dance.

Please make sure both you and your child understand all Policies of JFD
*Bullying
Bullying happens when there is an imbalance of power; where someone purposely and repeatedly says or does hurtful things to someone else. Bullying can occur one on one or in a group(s) of people. There are many different forms of bullying:
• Physical bullying (using your body or objects to cause harm): includes hitting, punching, kicking, spitting or breaking someone else's belongings.
• Verbal bullying (using words to hurt someone): includes name calling, put-downs, threats and teasing.
• Social bullying (using your friends and relationships to hurt someone): includes spreading rumours, gossiping, excluding others from a group or making others look foolish or unintelligent. This form of bullying is most common among girls.
*Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying involves the use of communication technologies such as the Internet, social networking sites, websites, email, text messaging and instant messaging to repeatedly intimidate or harass others.
Cyberbullying includes:
• Sending mean or threatening emails or text/instant messages.
• Posting embarrassing photos of someone online.
• Creating a website to make fun of others.
• Pretending to be someone by using their name.
• Tricking someone into revealing personal or embarrassing information and sending it to others.

Classes
Our regular Dance Season will start September 28th and will run until May 27th, with the Recital weekend May 28-30th, 2027. There will be a minimum of 25 classes in all disciplines (Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Lyrical). Tinker Bell Ballet and Toddler Tap will be cycled (8weeks x 3sessions).
We follow School schedules and do not run classes on Christmas and Easter break as well as Statutory Holidays (except for Victoria Day). Classes will still run on school PD days.
Tinker Bell Ballet & Toddler Tap: Classes will be cycled with a Fall, Winter and Spring Session. You can take 1, 2 or all 3 sessions.
All classes will focus on injury prevention, technique, performance and sport. All classes are subject to change pending enrolment. It is possible that some classes may not be offered. There is both a minimum and maximum number of students needed in order for that class to be offered. When there are not enough students for a class to run, classes will then be combined with other age groups if possible. If enrolment exceeds the maximum, the class will then be split (if enough studio time is available).
Classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. If you have registered for a class and it ends up not running, you will be issued a refund cheque (minus the registration fee if you are in more than one class) after October 31st. If you have only registered for one class and it ends up not running a full refund will be issued including the registration fee after October 31st.
