Dance class is educational and fun! However, an important part of class work is developing an attitude of discipline and respect for teachers and fellow students. Following studio policy will provide an environment whereby classes at SDC will be a pleasure for all involved.
Studio Communication:
Parent Portal - Please ensure all contact information in the parent portal is correct and up-to-date. The bulk of studio communications from the studio will be through the parent portal in the form of tuition notices, My calendar for your students schedule (click Google calendar for studio calendar), bulletins, reminders, emails, text, and phone calls. The parent portal is your own personal account where you may also view balances, pay tuition, see tardies & absences, view documents/waivers/policies & class provided videos/music, manage students, view class schedules, register for classes, and so much more.
Studio Website - www.stephenvilledancecenter.com visiting our website can answer common questions pertaining to pricing, important links & updates, dress code and upcoming studio events via the events calendar.
GroupMe app - please add this app to your phone. Each teacher will communicate with your class through this app. Your teacher will send a text out the first week of class to start the group. Please respond with a short text or emoji in order to continue receiving class communications through the app. If you have questions for your dancer's teacher, you may private message them within the app. Our classes run on a tight timeline, teachers normally won't have time to answer questions or address issues between classes.
Facebook & Instagram - SDC is on Facebook & Instagram and we update our page often - information on studio closures, events, & studio news will be shared there. Links to both can be found on Studio Website.
Studio Logistics:
For the safety of our students, dancers should be picked up and dropped off inside the studio. Dancers may not leave the studio without an adult.
Come early to class. 10 minutes should give your dancer enough time to use the restroom, get their shoes on and get prepared for class. All baby and pre classes are required to use the restroom before class to cut down on interruptions and ensure class time is dedicated to dance.
Dancers should be ready to start dancing at the time their class starts. This means shoes on, hair ready, and inside class assigned studio space. If your dancer needs to change at the studio, please allow ample time.
Dress Code:
The studio has a dress code policy in place regarding information about specific attire and hair requirements for your dancer's classes. Parents, please help us to reinforce the dress code as it is vital to dance education and the conduction of productive classes. Dress Code Policy is posted on our website and in the parent portal under waivers. We can order anything you need for your dancer! We can do shoe and dance clothing fittings anytime throughout the year. Just let any of our teachers know! If you prefer to shop from home, visit the link to our online storefront where you will find items you will need listed by class.

In addition to this policy:
No jewelry (with the exception of stud earrings) is allowed to be worn in class as it can pose a dangerous risk of injury.
No gum chewing is allowed due to the danger of choking.
No baggy clothing - loose-fitting pants, blue jeans & t-shirts are not dance attire.
No costumes are allowed in class unless a dress up day is announced by the individual teacher.
It’s important for students to abide by a dress code policy because a neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for students, teachers, and the art of dance. Teachers must be able to see the dancer's body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.
Personal Items:
Please put your dancer's name on all dance items, especially shoes.
The lost and found box is located in the dressing room and will be culled at the end of year.
Students can leave belongings in the dressing room or cubbies - bags, jackets and street shoes should stay outside the classroom. Leave valuable items at home - THE STUDIO IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.
Classroom Etiquette and Behavior:
Any student arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted to class or may be asked to sit out. For your safety and to receive full benefit from your class, please arrange for a make-up class if you expect to be very late. All students are encouraged not to leave the room once class has begun. Please allow for appropriate restroom use prior to class. Very young children will be treated sensitively as the need arises.
School age children and teens: please practice respect. Students are not to be socializing in a disruptive manner during the class with other students. Please come early or stay late to enjoy friends in the waiting area. Please honor your teacher and fellow students by giving full attention and cooperation. Parents will be advised if there are any behavioral issues or we feel any student is not well adjusted to the classroom environment for any reason over time.
Out of town guests may request to visit at any time throughout the year. No one else is allowed to sit and watch during regular class time.
Billing/Payment Procedures:
Tuition will be posted to accounts and a statement will be emailed at the beginning of each month. In months that we are collecting recital & costume fees, that amount will be added to the statement. The invoice does not itemize your bill. Log in to your parent portal to see the break-down of your invoice.
Any student with an overdue balance of more than 60 days will not be allowed into class until payment in full is received or payment arrangements have been made.
If for any reason you decide to discontinue your classes, please notify Ms. Renee by text (254-977-3772). You will continue to be billed until the studio is notified.
The studio currently accepts cash, Paypal, Venmo (@stephenvilledancecenter), or checks written out to Stephenville Dance Center. Payments can be made at the studio or within the parent portal.
Injury or Illness:
When a student sustains an injury that does not permit them to participate over an extended period of time a credit or refund will be issued. In some cases, a doctor's note is required to return to class. If your dancer is injured, they should still come to class to learn choreography even if it is just to observe.
If your dancer has a fever, please do not bring them back to dance until the fever has been broken for 24 hours.
During class if a student complains of being ill, or sustains an injury and cannot participate, the instructor will notify the parents if they are not on the premises.
Missed Classes:
Credit will not be given for missed classes due to illness, inclement weather, personal vacations & commitments.
Studio Closures/Cancellations/Holidays:
The studio will be closed only for major holidays (i.e.: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break) and in the event of inclement weather in which the ISD has to shut down for. Please see our calendar of events for dates that the studio will be closed. Closure alerts and reminders will be sent out via parent portal, FB, & Instagram.
If SDC cancels a class, students will be responsible for arranging their own make-up classes at a time that is convenient for them. The dancer is welcome to take another class in their perspective levels. In the event of multiple cancellations, make-up classes will be scheduled during school vacations. No credit will be given for inclement weather cancellations; however, students are always welcome to take make-up classes for any missed class at their regular times
Registration:
All students must register online. A $30 non-refundable registration fee will be due at time of registration.
Costume Fees & Costs:
The studio puts on two shows a year in which the dancers wear costumes. For our Holiday showcase the costumes will be $30 per class. For our Spring production the costumes will be $65. There is also a $40 Recital Fee for the Spring Performance. All costume payments are nonrefundable and a zero account balance is required to take costumes home.
Changing Class Levels and the addition of a new level:
If you think your dancer needs to move up a level please contact us before enrolling them in a new level class. We can provide the proper placement suggestions. Instructors may change placement of a dancer up or down if they feel the current placement is incorrect.
