Creative Movement
In this class, students will begin to use their bodies to create movement and artistic expression, with a strong focus on developing motor skills and exploring emotions through dance. This class meets once a week for 60 minutes.

Creative Movement is a dance practice where students generate movement in response to various prompts. They explore important concepts such as Body, Effort, Space, Time, and Relationship, building a personal vocabulary of both locomotor and non-locomotor movements.

Dance and creative movement also stimulate three of the five senses at once: touch, sight, and hearing. By listening to music and learning to move in time with the beat, children develop a keener sense of their bodies and how to respond to the world around them.

This class will participate in at least one local community performance during the year, as well as our Spring Recital. A costume, selected by the studio, will be required for these performances.

Dancing Technique
This class is designed for students who are not new to dance concepts and are at a beginner+ level of training. It is a technique-focused class only, meaning students will not participate in any performances or the spring recital.

The class meets once a week for 60 minutes, concentrating on improving each dancer’s strength, flexibility, and technical skills for leaps, jumps, and turns.

What to expect:
Each class typically includes:

A warm-up, stretching, and conditioning to build core strength and flexibility

Exercises with a more intensive focus on body alignment, centering, and extension, which enhance balance and overall technique

Dedicated time to practice various leaps, jumps, and turns, with the instructor offering individualized corrections to improve form and execution

Why this class matters:
This class gives instructors the chance to correct and strengthen foundational skills introduced in jazz and ballet classes, while addressing improper alignment early — helping dancers avoid habits that could hold them back in mastering more advanced skills.

Solid technique is also a sign of a dancer’s maturity and significantly impacts scoring when performing technical elements at competitions.

Note:
There will be no costume purchase required for this class, as it does not participate in performances.

Pre-Ballet
In this class, students will begin learning the fundamentals of ballet, meeting once a week for 60 minutes. Ballet is widely considered the foundation for training in all other genres of dance, making it an essential starting point for any young dancer.
Why ballet?
Ballet has been influential across the globe, defining the foundational techniques used in countless other dance styles and cultures. Classical ballet is built on formalized movements and positions of the arms, feet, and body, designed to help dancers move with agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace.
A key element of classical ballet technique is the turned-out position of the legs, which increases range of movement by adding mobility in the hip joint and creates beautiful, elongated lines through the legs and feet.
In this class, students will focus on:
• Proper alignment of the body
• Control of movement
• Creating aesthetically pleasing lines throughout the body

Lyrical dance draws inspiration from the lyrics and emotion of music. It combines elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and acrobatics to create movements that are both expressive and graceful. Dancers use this style to interpret and physically communicate the message of the song.

Dangerous Technique
This class is designed for students who are not new to dance concepts and are at an intermediate to advanced level of training. (Not recommended for novice or beginning dancers) It is a technique-focused class only, meaning students will not participate in any performances or the spring recital.
