Technique Class: Conditioning & Yoga For Dancers 1 - Elementary Age

This class is designed for dancers in elementary school. Students will work on developing proper technique and muscle strength and development. This class will work on turns, jumps, and leap combinations. The focus in these combinations will be to improve and learn the proper technique to execute the skills correctly and for mastery. It will also have a strong focus on improving flexibility and body strength. This class would be a great accompaniment class to any style of dance.

This class is a non-recital class.

This modern class will introduce many of the foundations of modern dance technique styles, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.
Must be 10 years old to enroll in this class.

Students will use proper stretching techniques to gain flexibility and strength in all muscle groups in the body using conventional exercises and yoga. This is a great class to accompany any style of dance. All dancers would benefit from this technique class.

This class is for preschool age students. Preschoolers will be introduced to various styles of dance such as ballet, tap, and jazz. Students will need both black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes for this class.

Technique, Leaps, and Turns, is a class created for the dancer who wishes to give extra attention to improving their technique. This class will focus on the proper execution of various leaps, jumps, and turns being worked on at the middle & high school level classes. This will include leap combinations and turn sequences. This class is for dancers enrolled in middle & high school level classes

This class meets the Ballet B,C & D technique class requirement.

In this class students will focus on growing and refining in their jazz technique. They will study various styles of jazz including classic, broadway/musical theater, and commercial jazz. Dancers will grow in their ability in the use of rhythmically complex and syncopated movement. Dancers will also use body isolations within their movements. Dancers will also working on strength and control within their flexibility with more complex movement. In this class dancers will explore and grow in styles from some of the great masters of jazz dance.Students at this level begin to focus on more complex and more intricate turn sequences with style and speed while progressing through this advanced level curriculum. At this level improv becomes a part of the curriculum to allow students to explore feelings and emotions within their movements.

Students will be guided through the fundamentals in order to build a strong tap foundation that not only focuses on learning the skills but developing excellent tap technique and sound quality.

Black full sole tap shoes are required for this class. (No Mary Jane Style Tap Shoes & No Patent Leather Tap Shoes)

For this ballet class students must have successfully completed the Level 1,2, & 3 curriculums and advance at the recommendation of the Artistic Director. . Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the French, Vagonova and RAD methods.

This tap class is for students ages 11+ that have successful completed the Tap 1 level class. In tap students will continue to work on strength, flexibility, and wait shifting through a warm ups. Various across the floor or traveling movements will be introduced and practiced for weight shifting and expanding skill knowledge. Students will explore musicality and improvisation. The advanced beginner tap syllabus typically takes 2-3 years to successfully complete. Students will study traditional broadway and rhythm style tap at an age appropriate and skill appropriate level.

Black full sole tap shoes are required for this class. (NO Mary Jane style tap shoes.)

This tap class is for students ages 14+ that have successful completed the Tap Middle School level class. In this class students will continue to learn, improve, and strengthen their ankle flexibility and weight shifting abilities through a warm up routine. Students will be guided through the fundamentals in order to build a strong tap foundation that not only focuses on learning the skills but developing excellent tap technique and sound quality. Single & double pullbacks, traditional wings, toe stands and various time steps are mastered in this tap syllabus. Students are also introduced and work on more advanced tap tricks, skills, and weight shifting patterns. Students work on musicality and improvisation.

It is recommended that students get the oxford style full sole tap shoe with a thicker sounding board for more stability and better sound quality at this level. Examples of shoes would be Bloch Jason Samuel Smith Shoe or Capezio Roxy Shoe.

Variations class is the study of solo dances from historically established classical ballet repertoire. They were created to highlight the artistic and technical skill of soloists and principal dancers in classical companies.

Students must be enrolled in Ballet C & D level class to participate. This class must be taken along with Ballet C.

Students wear a leotard, tights, and pink ballet shoes. Hair in bun.

This class is a recital participation class if the instructor chooses to put a piece in the show.

Recital participation is optional. A costume is not ordered for this class.

This jazz class is for students ages 12+ that have successful completed the Jazz 1 class. In jazz students will continue to work on strength and flexibility through a warm up focusing on leg extensions and developing splits. Various across the floor or traveling movements will be introduced and practiced for weight shifting and expanding skill knowledge. Students will work on turns introduced in Jazz 1 and master inside and outside single pirouette turns. The advanced beginner to intermediate jazz syllabus typically takes 2-3 years to successfully complete. Students will study classical, broadway/musical theater, and commercial style jazz at an age appropriate and skill appropriate level.

Black jazz shoes are required for this class.

Students must be enrolled in Ballet 4 and have successfully completed the Pointe 1 class . In this class dancers will wear pointe shoes. Students will learn and practice pointe barre work with emphasis on individual's correct foot and body alignment as well as study of the proper techniques for the execution of more difficult steps. Students will work on advancing their abilities in footwork, jumps, and turns on pointe.

Students in this class must wear a leotard, tights, and professionally fitted pointe shoes. Hair must be in a bun. No dance shorts of any kind can be worn for this class. A ballet skirt may be worn at the discretion of the instructor.

Students must have successfully completed Ballet Levels 1. Students must be enrolled in Ballet 2 or Ballet 3 to enroll in this class.
Students must be enrolled in a ballet class, variations class, and a technique class.
Pre-pointe students will further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to be successful en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Students learn how to properly care for, sew, and put on their pointe shoes, They also learn about healthy foot care for happy feet when going up on pointe.

Students wear leotard, tights, and pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun.

Students will begin each class working on their ballet technique, lines, and improving their overall body strength at the barre. The class will learn petite allegro patterns, adagio, develop and grow in their strength and flexibility, and work on turn and leap variations for more defined foot work.
