Join the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Claves Unidos for a powerful afternoon of movement, rhythm, and cultural connection as we welcome back Iya Ota Niwé Ifamoké Fayemi for a special Afro-Cuban dance and Orisha workshop.
An initiated Yoruba priestess, medium, spiritual healer, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Holistic Life Coach, and Reiki Master, Iya Ota Niwé brings a unique depth of knowledge and lived experience to her teaching.
Participants will explore Afro-Cuban movement, rhythm, and the traditions of the Orishas, connecting movement with the cultural and spiritual foundations that give these dances meaning.
Whether you are stepping into Afro-Cuban dance for the first time or continuing your training, all ages and experience levels are welcome. Come ready to move, learn, connect, and experience an afternoon rooted in culture, community, and spirit.

A progressive classical ballet class for dancers with an established technical foundation. Students refine alignment, strength, flexibility, coordination, musicality, and épaulement through increasingly complex barre and center combinations. Training includes adagio, pirouettes, traveling turns, petit and grand allegro, and advanced movement vocabulary, with an emphasis on artistry, performance quality, and confident execution.

An introduction to the technique, rhythms, and expressive artistry of flamenco for adult dancers. Students develop flamenco posture, coordination, musicality, and confidence while learning foundational braceo and floreo, palmas, marking steps, turns, and introductory zapateado footwork. Spanish terminology and flamenco’s cultural traditions are incorporated throughout the class. No previous dance experience is required.

Junior Company members showcase their talent year-round at festivals and special events, including our cherished annual production, Legend of the Poinsettia. As ambassadors both in the studio and the community, they embody dedication and artistry.
The following classes are mandatory for Junior Company: Ballet III, Flamenco III, and Afro-Cuban. These are accompanied by the required Junior Company Rehearsal.
