2026 Summer Classes
Dance 'n Play
Young dancers explore movement with parents and peers while enjoying activities and props set to fun music. A great way to introduce young children to dance and social learning, each lesson is repeated twice for the dancers to return to familiar routines. The class as a whole follows the same step-by-step structure throughout the entirety of the session. Because this class is meant for older infants and young toddlers, they are the priority! If you need to take some time to step outside, hold onto a prop for a little longer, calm a frustrated dancer faced with taking turns, it is all welcome here. Ages: 18 months - 3 years old.

Dancers will learn the basics of rhythm, timing, and how to follow a group, as well as short pieces of choreography that vary month to month. We will stomp like Dinosaurs, drive cars like Bluey, and tippy-toe like mice. It’s a fun time!

Hip Hop II
Hip Hop 2 focuses on building upon the concepts learned in Hip Hop 1, such as rhythm awareness, history of the dance, and basic top rock movements. In this class, eras of stylistic hip-hop are also further explored. 1980’s Top Rock, 2000’ Swag Era, and present day Pop Groove are some of the styles students will get to further explore in both movement and history. Every class begins with a brief warm-up consisting of hip-hop movements we will either use that day or that month, followed by a short across-the-floor hip-hop variation. After, a partnered game is played focusing on rhythm awareness, spatial awareness, and creativity. The last part of class is focused on working on choreography for a specific upcoming piece, or giving the students a chance to come up with their own choreography. Once every other class, the last five minutes will be devoted to free-styling, as it is often viewed as one of the hardest traits for a dancer to master. To freestyle without any choreographed movement ahead of time, completely unaware of what the music will be, challenges the dancer to utilize skills such as quick critical thinking, confidence, and multitasking, to name a few. Dancers will have to freestyle anywhere from 30 seconds to one minute, never knowing when the music will stop.

The Team of Performers (TOPs) is Creative Dance Theatre’s leading non-competitive
performing group. The team meets 3 times a week, and its purpose is to learn choreography to
perform not only in CDT shows and recitals, but also in community events such as fairs,
festivals, and other local events. TOPs members learn a variety of dance styles throughout the

what it is like to be a working artist by making space for them to create their own choreography
and participating in dances and performances that enrich them artistically. TOPs is an invite-only
team; students need to be between the ages of 13-18, and be enrolled in a CDT class for at
least a year to be considered. For more information about TOPs or performance inquiries, email

Creative Dance
Meant for older toddlers and early preschool years, this class will have some jazz and ballet elements, but will mostly be focused on fun, creative activities designed to get the dancers out of their comfort zone and learn to be confident in dancing in their own skin. This class will repeat a single lesson every two weeks, to encourage memory and anticipation of expected activities. Throughout the entirety of the session, each lesson will follow an overarching, consistent structure. This class is not parent-participation, but still has the security of still having parents nearby in the open-observation studio setting.
