Students are encouraged to work on their flexibility, posture, and spatial awareness outside of class. This class requires no previous dance experience.

Pre-Beginning Pointe
This class prepares dancers for pointe work by building foot and ankle strength, emphasizing proper alignment, and teaching the technique necessary to be en pointe.* In this class, students will work on:
- Foot and ankle strengthening exercises.
- Core stability and balance.
- Introductory pointe technique and proper bodily alignment.
- Safe pointe preparation & injury prevention skills.
Students are encouraged to work on their foot & ankle stability exercises outside of class, as well as maintaining their ballet technique. Dancers complete exercises both on flat and en pointe. Instruction is individualized; some students may be instructed to remain on flat to prevent injury while they build the strength necessary for pointe shoes. Students may repeat this level until they are deemed ready to progress by the instructor. Previous ballet or other dance experience is required.
*Enrollment in a regular ballet technique class is required in addition to this class.

Ballet 6
Designed for advanced dancers, this class challenges students to refine their technical excellence while developing artistry and confidence in performance. In this class, students will learn:
- Advanced ballet technique and challenging combinations.
- Multiple pirouettes, fouttes, advanced jumps, and traveling sequences.
- Precision, strength, flexibility, and control.
Dancers should have advanced knowledge of ballet vocabulary and technique, as well as be able to execute all fundamental barre and center exercises prior to joining this class. Students are encouraged to work on their flexibility, strength and technical consistency outside of class. Previous dance experience and instructor approval are required.

Intermediate Pointe
This class is designed for students with previous pointe experience who are ready to further develop their strength, confidence, and artistry en pointe.* In this class, students will learn:
- Intermediate pointe combinations at the barre and in center.
- To consistently increase foot and ankle strength.
- To enhance balance, control, and technical precision.
Students are encouraged to work on their ankle and foot strengthening exercises outside of class. Previous dance experience and instructor approval are required.
*Enrollment in a regular ballet technique class & Int./Adv. Pointe techniques are required in addition to this class.

Ballet 3/4
This intermediate-level class focuses on strengthening ballet technique while encouraging artistry and expressive movement. Students will work on:
- Intermediate barre & center combinations.
- Correct body placement and refining ballet posture.
- Turns, jumps, improving balance on one or both legs, and flexibility.
Students are encouraged to work on their flexibility, strength, and ballet vocabulary prior to joining this class. Although this class does not require previous dance experience, it builds on concepts taught in previous levels of ballet. As it is intended for students with prior ballet or dance experience, it may feel fast-paced for a new dancer.

Beginning Acro
Students will safely explore their flexibility and strength in the realm of dance acrobatics. Through a variety of engaging drills and strength exercises, students are given the building blocks to properly execute a wide range of acrobatic skills including, but not limited to:
- Handstands, headstands, cartwheels, and other inversions.
- Splits, backbends, and other mild contortion skills.
- Partner and group lifts.
Instruction is individualised; no students will be asked to attempt a skill before they are ready. All skill and lift attempts are supervised by the instructor or teaching assistant. Students are encouraged to work on their bodily and spatial awareness prior to class, as well as have a willingness to make mistakes. Previous dance experience is not required.

Intermediate Acro
In this class, students learn a variety of acrobatic skills that will benefit them in all dance classes! In addition to improving their strength, flexibility, and teamwork skills, they will be able to safely work towards:
- Aerials, front and back handsprings, and other tumbling skills.
- Front and back walkovers and simple contortion poses.
- Elbow, chin, hand, and headstands.
- Partner and group lifts.
- Spotting and supporting their classmates.
Instruction is individualized; no students will be asked to attempt a skill before they are ready. Dancers should be able to execute cartwheels, handstands, and all splits, as well as have a strong sense of spatial and bodily awareness prior to joining the class. Students are encouraged to work on arm strength, wrist strength, and back flexibility outside of class. All skill and lift attempts are supervised by the instructor. For student safety, previous dance or gymnastic experience is strongly encouraged.

Int./Adv. Lyrical
Lyrical is an intersection of jazz and ballet techniques, motivated by emotion and storytelling. Students* will work on fluid motion, breathwork, and expressive movement to enrich their performance quality. Personal contributions and varied interpretations of choreography are encouraged. In addition to enhancing their flexibility and technique, students will learn to:
- Master leaps, turns, rolls, lifts, and floorwork skills.
- Choreograph and improvise, both individually and as a group.
- Deeply connect with music and choreography to convey storylines through movement.
- Push the boundaries of their movement in a safe, supportive environment.
Dancers should be able to execute a variety of leaps, turns, and stylized transitions prior to joining this class. Students are encouraged to work on ballet technique and musicality outside of class. Previous dance experience is preferred.
*While we hope to include it in our spring lineup, a younger level of lyrical will not be available for the Fall 2026 semester. To account for this, students ages 9-12 with interest in lyrical may enroll in the intermediate level to begin building their skills! Enrollment in the intermediate class does not guarantee inclusion in the Winter Recital piece.

Musical Theatre
In this intermediate level class, students receive instruction in the many forms of dance that appear in theatre productions, such as Character Jazz, Theatrical Ballet, stylized Hip Hop, and more! Brief theatrical and dance history lessons are provided. Through each different style, students will learn:
- Basic dance technique and proper alignment.
- A variety of leaps and turns.
- How to dance with props.
- Performance quality and facials.
Students are encouraged to work on facial expressions, rhythm exercises, and musicality outside of class. Previous dance experience is not required.

Creative Dance
Designed for our youngest dancers, this class introduces the joy of dance through creative exploration and imagination! In this class students will learn:

- The 5 ballet foot and arm positions and introductory dance vocabulary.
- Classroom skills such as listening, following directions, and taking turns.
This class requires no previous dance experience.

Ballet 1/2/3 Nutcracker Rehearsal
These classes are intended for students that are participating* in Ballet Victoria’s production of The Nutcracker, which we are thrilled to host this season! Dancers have the opportunity to work alongside the professional ballet company and perform locally in select ensemble roles. More information is available on the Festival Dance website.
*Students are required to audition for a role in this production. They will be placed accordingly in age appropriate roles.

Dancers are given the building blocks of Broadway in this energetic intersection between the theatrical forms of tap and jazz! Time will be devoted to both styles every week, ensuring students are thoroughly educated and can advance to higher levels of each style when deemed appropriate. Students will learn:
- Basic jazz and tap technique.
- Pirouettes and preparations for other turns.
- Shuffle variations and other fundamental tap steps.
- Battements and leaps.
Students are encouraged to work on rhythm exercises and musicality outside of class. Previous dance experience is not required.

This class builds on the basics of hip hop that are taught in the previous level. In this class, students will focus on strengthening their knowledge of the style and integrating basic hip hop skills into the choreography they are given. Students will work on:

- Body rolls and top rocks.
- How to emphasize moments in the music by hitting certain beats.
Students are encouraged to work on rhythm exercises, strong movements, and spatial awareness outside of class. Previous dance experience is encouraged, but not required.

Students are encouraged to work on their flexibility, strength, ballet technique, and knowledge of ballet vocabulary prior to joining this class. Previous dance experience is encouraged.

- Complex turns, balances, and traveling movements en pointe.
- Strength, endurance, precision, and control.
Students are encouraged to work on their foot and ankle strength, flexibility, and overall ballet technique outside of class. Previous dance experience and instructor approval are required.

Lessons that are taught in previous levels of jazz are expanded upon in this class. Dancers are able to improve fundamental dance techniques by implementing them in this fun, upbeat style! Students will learn:

- Pirouettes, a la secondes, and other turns.
- Stylized improv and how to utilize musicality.
Dancers should be able to execute basic turns, leaps, and battements prior to joining this class. Students are encouraged to work on facial expressions and flexibility outside of class. Previous dance experience is encouraged.

Advanced hip hop expands on the skills that are taught in previous levels. This class is designed for students to improve upon their understanding and execution of the style through personal artistic movement exploration. Students will learn:

- How to pop, lock, and freestyle.
- Baby freezes, coffee grinders, and other hip hop style tricks.
As this class builds on lessons taught in previous levels of hip hop, hip hop or other dance experience is encouraged.

This class provides students with an understanding of hip hop. Using appropriate hip hop music, dancers are taught basic rhythms, strong movements, and how to dance with bold personality. Students will learn:

- How to dance to and keep time with foundational rhythms and keep time with any tempo
We encourage students to work on spatial awareness, rhythm exercises and utilize their facial expressions outside of class.
This class requires no previous dance experience.

MOFE Advanced Performance Troupe
Motion Fever Performance Troupe is designed for advanced dancers at Festival Dance Academy. Troupe members have the chance to become part of the choreographic process and practice artistic collaboration, occasionally creating entirely student-choreographed pieces! Dancers have the opportunity to perform at multiple community events and serve as role models for younger students at Festival Dance. Students are able to:
- Work closely with multiple instructors and guest choreographers.
- Perform as guests of the University of Idaho Dance Department in certain shows.
- Collaborate with their team members to grow as dancers and performers.
MOFE choreography can be done in any style of dance, so students are encouraged to take multiple different classes. Dancers must be able to pick up choreography quickly, as well as execute turns, leaps, tricks, and partnering skills with proper technique prior to joining. Instructor approval and previous dance experience are required.

Int. Contemporary Performance
For the 2026-2027 season, dancers in this class will serve as our junior MOFE Troupe! Grounded in the contemporary style, students will work on fundamental choreographic elements, such as time, space, and shape. Students will have the opportunity to perform for the community at a variety of events and become role models for the younger students at Festival Dance. Dancers will be able to learn pieces from multiple instructors and expand their capabilities as performers. Students will work on:
- Simple partnering, floorwork, and fundamental technique.
- Inversions, rolls, and stylized tricks.
- Learning multiple pieces of choreography in one semester.
Students should be able to execute a variety of turns, seat rolls, inversions, and have a strong understanding of technical terms and movements prior to joining this class. Dancers should have an eagerness to perform and a willingness to learn from multiple teachers. Instructor approval required.

Contemporary is a stylized collaboration between jazz, modern, and ballet techniques. Dancers will be able to experiment with intricate movement, levels, shape, and dancing to many types of music. Students will learn:

- Partnering, weight-sharing, and fundamental technique.
- Improvisation and musicality.
Students should be able to execute a variety of inversions, leaps, and turns prior to joining this class. Previous dance experience is preferred.

- How to dance to foundational rhythms and keep time with any tempo.
We encourage students to work on spatial awareness, rhythm exercises, and utilizing their facial expressions outside of class. This class requires no previous dance experience.
