Students will be encouraged to develop their own personal artistry and creativity through improvisation. Each day will consist of a guided warmup, center, and across the floor combinations.
Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for full range of motion. Class should be taken barefoot or in socks. Socks with a higher cotton content are the most compatible with our marley floor. For this class, and any class involving a lot of floor work, long pants/leggings, a shirt that fully covers your shoulders, layers, and socks that cover any exposed ankle flesh is strongly encouraged.

Teen Tap
Tap dance is an American indigenous style of dance that arose as enslaved individuals of African descent combined dances native to their culture with European dance forms like Irish step dancing. It is a form marked by using the sounds of metal taps fastened to the toe and heel of shoes making contact with the floor to create a type of percussion.
Building on skills learned in Beginning Tap, this Intermediate/Advanced tap class continues the development of tap technique with a focus on speed, transitions, strength, and clarity of sound. Students should be comfortable with fundamental tap vocabulary including flaps, shuffles, cramp rolls and simple time steps. In this class, we will heavily focus on the concepts of rhythm and musicality as well as building advanced skills such as wings, pull backs, time step variations, and group improvisation.
Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for full range of motion. Tap shoes will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own shoes if they have them. Please note that during the warm months, we may take students into our outdoor classroom without advance notice, so please plan accordingly.

Teen Ballet
Ballet is a form of dance popularized by Louis XIV and practiced widely in America and Europe. The benefits of studying ballet include improved balance, strength, control, and awareness of anatomical alignment. While ballet is a codified technique, meaning that it is influenced by a set of rules and perceptions of what is “correct” or “incorrect,” dancers can still find individual artistic expression by paying attention to concepts such as breath, use of space, and movement quality.
This class will reinforce ballet posture and alignment, enhance flexibility, and teach a variety of common ballet steps. Each day will begin with a traditional barre warmup, followed by a series of combinations in center and across the floor including adagio, petit allegro, and grand allegro.
Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for full range of motion. Class should be taken barefoot or in socks. Socks with a higher cotton content are the most compatible with our marley floor. Ballet shoes are not required but can be provided at no charge at the studio. Students who have their own ballet slippers are welcome to bring them for class.
