On2 style Salsa, also known as New York style, is a rhythm-driven form of salsa dancing that emphasizes musicality and smooth footwork. Danced “on2,” it places the break step on the second beat of the music, creating a distinctive flow that aligns closely with the clave rhythm at the heart of salsa music. Known for its elegance and emphasis on timing, On2 is popular among dancers who love intricate turn patterns, precise technique, and a deeper connection to the music. Born in New York City and influenced by mambo, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean roots, On2 salsa is both a celebration of tradition and a modern expression of Latin dance culture.
Students should wear a leotard and dance shorts. No jeans. It's recommended to wear jazz shoes for this class.
