*THIS CLASS PERFORMS FOR ALL SCHOOL DEMO AND THE WINTER SHOW*
At this level, we start with building more expansive movement vocabulary, and throughout the year, the students will concentrate on the placement of the back, as well as strengthening the legs and feet. We place more focus on student turnout of the leg and their stability throughout the year to make sure they can feel and understand their limitations.
At this level, we also begin to address coordination of steps and introduction to musicality. The Class requirement is twice a week.
The Class requirement is twice a week.
Dress Code
The following applies to all classes in The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s Children and Youth Division. Instructors or the School Director must approve any exceptions to this dress code on a case-by-case basis. No jewelry, including large earrings, watches, bracelets, and necklaces, may be worn to class.
Ballet
Female-identifying students
Students should wear their corresponding uniform-colored leotard for their level, listed below. Tanks, camisoles, cap sleeves, and long-sleeved leotards are allowed.
Pre-Ballet: Light Pink (1x weekly)
Ballet I: Light Blue (1x weekly)
Ballet II: Light Yellow (2x weekly)
Ballet III: Purple (2x weekly)
Ballet IVa and IVb: Teal (3x weekly)
Ballet V: Burgundy (3x weekly)
Students should wear pink or skin-tone tights for our students of color. Convertible or footed tights are acceptable underneath the uniform-colored leotard with pink/flesh-tone ballet slippers to match the tights.
Ballet II-V students may wear a white ¾”- 1” wide elastic belt or a simple white elastic tied in a knot at their waist to check alignment. The latter is available at a craft store or the sewing aisle of a supermarket.
Hair must be pulled back neatly off the face and neck into a bun. This hairstyle allows instructors to see the alignment of the neck. It enables students to move their head freely during pirouettes, jumps, and forward bends without being compromised by the distraction that free hair creates.
If a student’s hair is short, they are required to wear it in a low ponytail with bobby pins to keep the hair off their face and neck.
Please let us know if your student needs assistance finding a suitable hairstyle. Below are links to hair tutorials. Please take a look and feel free to ask questions.

Gender-fluid students
Students may select the uniform that best suits their gender expression. Students may consult with their instructor should they need to alter the uniform to suit their needs. Modified uniforms may not be worn until the School Director and instructor have approved them.

*THIS CLASS DOES NOT PERFORM*
Class for Level III ballet students and above.
Students focus on strengthening for future pointe work as well as proper stretching, flexibility, conditioning, and alignment techniques.
This is an essential class for young dancers. This class will not have pointe work.
Attire: Warm-up attire is at the discretion of the instructor. If a student has a dance class immediately following Pre-Pointe, they should wear the appropriate uniform for that class underneath their warm-ups (e.g., a long-sleeve shirt and sweatpants). Students should pull their hair back neatly off their face, but it should not be worn in a bun, as that will impede neck alignment when lying down on the mat.
Students should bring a “TheraBand” or other resistance bands to class.

We place greater attention on turnout and stability, helping dancers understand their own limitations safely. Students will also begin developing coordination of steps and an introduction to musicality. Attendance is required twice per week.

6-10yo/ Tuesday Ballet I 5:00PM Spring Session January 26 - June 7 2026
*THIS CLASS PERFORMS IN ALL SCHOOL DEMO AND THE WINTER SHOW*
At this level, students begin to learn the basic ballet positions of the feet and arms. Throughout the school year, the students will develop the basic principles of turn out, stability of the leg, and strength of the torso. This level will also focus on creativity technique in order to avoid overload, and as to not inhibit the child's joy, spirit, and individuality. Class requirement is once a week plus previous Pre-Ballet instruction or by placement by instructor.
Dress Code
The following applies to all classes in The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s Children and Youth Division. Instructors or the School Director must approve any exceptions to this dress code on a case-by-case basis. No jewelry, including large earrings, watches, bracelets, and necklaces, may be worn to class.

Students should wear their corresponding uniform-colored leotard for their level, listed below. Tanks, camisoles, cap sleeves, and long-sleeved leotards are allowed.
Pre-Ballet: Light Pink (1x weekly)

If a student’s hair is short, they are required to wear it in a low ponytail with bobby pins to keep the hair off their face and neck.
Please let us know if your student needs assistance finding a suitable hairstyle. Below are links to hair tutorials. Please take a look and feel free to ask questions.

18+yo/ 9:00 am Monday Fitness For Living w/ Angie Bolton
*THIS CLASS DOES NOT PERFORM*
Fitness For Living (FFL) is a fun-filled, socially engaging fitness class for The School of Spectrum Dance Theater’s community seniors. Angie Bolton, ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor and the class creator, safely leads students through cardio and bodyweight resistance work. You will move, sweat, and feel great!
There’s no need for special equipment if students take the class remotely! Instead, grab two cans of soup or beans if you don't have weights. If you do happen to have hand weights and bands at home, Angie will provide meticulous instruction on how to use them. You will need a hand towel for stretching (and sweating) and water. Please bring a yoga mat if you are attending the class in person. SSDT no longer provides them for hygienic reasons.
