Advanced 1 Jazz
Age Group: 14+ years old
Jazz is a dynamic and energetic dance style that encourages students to be expressive, bold, and confident. In our senior jazz classes, dancers continue to refine their technique, musicality, and artistry while mastering more advanced movements and combinations.
We follow the NZAMD American Jazz syllabus, choreographed by Keith Clifton (USA). This syllabus includes comprehensive warm-ups, barre and floor work, complex progressions, and stylish choreography, culminating in a performance dance for each grade.
Senior dancers work towards achieving milestones such as the NZAMD Solo Performance Diploma in Jazz. Exams are held towards the end of Term 3, typically in early to mid-September. Students wishing to complete the next level of jazz, must participate in the exam. After completing their exams, dancers transition to preparing a showpiece to be featured in our annual end-of-year production, held at the Pukekohe Indian Association Community Centre.
NB: Students sitting the Advanced 1 Jazz exam must have previously sat NZAMD Elementary Jazz or a similar cross-creditable level in another syllabus.

Advanced 2 Ballet
IMPORTANT: Advanced 2 Ballet does not include any complimentary classes. Dancers intending to sit the exam must also enrol in Advanced 1 Ballet and Intermediate/Advanced Pointe to increase their training hours. The strength and technique necessary for successfully completing Advanced 2 are developed through consistent and dedicated ballet practice.
Ballet is a refined and expressive art form that helps senior dancers develop technical skill, artistry, and strength. Students will follow the ISTD exam syllabus, which begins with fundamental exercises at the barre and progresses to more intricate movements in the centre. Senior ballet students will learn and refine ballet terminology, which is essential for their technique and understanding of the art form. This vocabulary will be integral in their exams, as they will need to demonstrate proficiency in both the movements and the terminology.
Dancers at this level will demonstrate proficiency in their pointe work, and as part of their training, they will need to be able to present advanced repertoire from famous ballets. In addition to their regular classes, students are invited to participate in an in-house exam with an international examiner during Term 3, providing a valuable opportunity to mark their progress and celebrate their achievements.
Advanced 2 Ballet is generally taken across 2 years, however we sometimes allow certain students to sit this exam within their first year. Please discuss this with both your ballet teachers, and with the studio Director Siyanna.
If you're new to ballet, please contact us to find out which class is best suited to your current skill level.
