SDDA teaches both contemporary and traditional styles of jazz. Our curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with various styles of jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and relevant combinations.

Because jazz requires a sound knowledge of dance techniques, it is offered to students in Kindergarten or above. Enrollment in ballet is required to take Jazz.

This program, for our students ages 3 - 5, combines elements of ballet, tap, basic music theory, acro, and creative movement. In addition to these physical and intellectual concepts, students will have fun, build self-esteem and confidence, and explore their creativity.

About the Class:

Students receive instruction from qualified dance teachers, while parents can observe their classes via HDTV in our climate-controlled lobby.
Most students come one time per week, but you can enroll in more than one class if desired.
Our student/teacher ratio is a maximum of 8 students per instructor. If there are more than 8 students enrolled in a class, an assistant teacher will be added.

Contemporary Lyrical is a form of artistic expression that is usually performed with the intent of interpreting the lyrics and mood of the music.

At SDDA, we use a proven tap syllabus, which is influenced by the techniques of the Al Gilbert method. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap.

Classroom exercises focus on building flexibility of the knees and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.

Class is taught at the beginner-to-intermediate level. No experience required!

Stretch/Body Conditioning (11+)
This class assists dancers with body strengthening and toning, proper stretching technique, and improved stamina. Class exercises will be based on dancer-friendly conditioning such as Yoga, Pilates, barre fitness, and ballet/jazz technique. Education about the anatomy of the body and good nutrition may also be introduced.

Active Isolated Stretching is a major tool used by students to heal troubled muscle areas, but it can provide numerous other health benefits, as well. When stretching actively, the entire body, as well as the brain, becomes involved. With each additional opportunity for stretching, the dancer becomes more fluid and flexible, and takes on a more beautiful line. This class is noncompetitive, however students will be greatly challenged and encouraged.
All dancers, especially those in a pre-pro company, or on a competition team, are encouraged to enroll.

Modern is a style of dance that, while based on ballet technique, is not confined to traditional form or expression. Modern was created by the pioneers of the genre who desired to break the rules of ballet-specific lines and shapes to create a unique movement quality, eventually developing their methodologies and techniques. The original form of contemporary dance, Modern combines multiple forms of movement and encourages dancer improvisation. In this class, students will learn and experiment with interpretation, spatial awareness, rhythm, intention of movement, and awareness of body.

Stage Door Dance Arts focuses primarily on Lester Horton and Martha Graham modern techniques.

This class is only open to Level 3-5 pre-pro company students. Ballet is a required pre-requisite class.

In The Lab! Mad Scientist Camp (Hip Hop/Science Dance Camp!)
Step into the lab this summer and get ready to mix beats, moves, and mind-blowing experiments at In The Lab! Mad Scientist Camp. This one-of-a-kind hip-hop science dance camp is where creativity meets curiosity! Campers will spend their days diving into exciting hands-on science experiments and crafts—think bubbling reactions, wild inventions, and mad scientist fun—while also learning high-energy hip hop choreography that builds confidence, rhythm, and style. Each day brings a new combination of movement and discovery. Dancers will break it down in hip hop classes, then switch gears to explore interactive STEM activities that spark imagination and critical thinking. Add in games, team challenges, and tons of laughs, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an unforgettable summer experience. Get ready to go mad! Dancers should pack a healthy snack and a water bottle. This camp will meet Monday-Thursday, from 9:00-12:00 PM. Parents should arrive at 11:45 on Thursday, July 16th for a special dance performance!

Throughout the week, campers will learn fun K-pop-inspired dance routines, play exciting games, and create themed crafts that bring the vibrant world of the movie to life. From performance challenges and dance battles to creative activities, every day is packed with music, movement, teamwork, and nonstop fun. Whether your child is already a K-pop superfan or just loves to dance and perform, K-Pop Kamp is the perfect place to make friends, express creativity, and experience the magic of being part of the ultimate idol training adventure. Designed for dancers ages 5–10, this enchanting dance camp is filled with imagination, creativity, and royal fun! Campers will enjoy ballet classes that inspire grace and confidence while learning magical dances fit for a princess. Each day also includes themed crafts, exciting games, and special activities that make every camper feel like royalty. To top off the fun, dancers will enjoy a charming tea party celebration with their fellow princess friends! From sparkling smiles to magical memories, Princess Camp is the perfect summer experience for little dancers who love to dream big and dance bright. Dancers should bring a healthy snack and a water bottle each day. This camp will meet Monday-Thursday, July 27th-30th from 9:00-12:00 PM. Have a ballerina who loves to twirl and leap? Join us for a week of tutus, dance shoes, and princess tea parties! Dancers will learn beautiful ballet choreography, a precious poem, have story-time, and participate in creative, ballet-themed crafts! Dancers should wear dance clothes or comfortable clothes that are easy to move in, and should pack a healthy snack and water bottle. This camp will meet Monday-Thursday, June 6th-9th, from 9:00-11:00 AM. Parents should arrive at 10:45 on Thursday, July 9th for a special dance performance!
