Beginner Ballet for 10+
Class Overview
It is never too late to start your ballet journey! This class is specifically designed for the "tween" and teen beginner who wants to learn the art of ballet in an environment with their peers. Whether you are looking to build a strong foundation for other dance styles, improve your posture and flexibility, or simply fulfill a lifelong dream of wearing pointe shoes one day, this class provides the perfect entry point.
Since we meet once a week, our sessions focus on high-quality repetitions and building muscle memory that sticks. We balance the discipline of classical technique with a supportive, low-pressure atmosphere.
What You’ll Learn
We follow a traditional class structure adapted for the developing body and mind of a 10+ student:
The Barre: The foundation of all ballet. You’ll learn the five positions of the feet and arms, along with essential movements like pliés, tendus, and ronds de jambe.
Center Work: We move away from the barre to find our balance. You’ll practice graceful port de bras (arm movements) and basic adagio (slow, controlled movements).
Across the Floor: Here is where we move! You’ll learn basic traveling steps, including chassés, balancés, and simple turns.
Terminology: Students will learn the French vocabulary of ballet, understanding not just how to do a move, but what it means and why we do it.
Key Benefits
Postural Awareness: Develop a strong core and "long" spine that carries over into everyday life.
Musicality: Learn to count music and coordinate movements to classical scores.
Confidence: Master challenging coordination in a space where mistakes are just part of the learning process.
Dress Code
GSAB Leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes to be purchased at the studio.
Hair should be pulled back securely off the face and neck (preferably in a bun).
Note to Parents & Students: Consistency is key! Because this class meets once a week, we encourage students to practice their basic positions and stretches at home to see the best progress and be sure to attend your weekly classes!
