JAZZ
comes from Africa and arose in America in the early 1900s as African American social dances. The many styles--afro, classic, commercial--include cornerstones of the technique such as an articulated torso, groundedness, broken lines, rhythm and the "aesthetic of the cool". Youth levels 4+ will also have a strong focus on turns, leaps, and jumps.

ACRO
has moved from its roots in traditional Chinese dance, to the Vaudeville stage, to the Cirque du Soleil, and So You Think You Can Dance. It’s a fusion of classical dance and acrobatics. Students will learn basics such as somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, backbends and walkovers. The focus is on developing both strength, coordination, and the ability to perform with fluidity and form.

traces back to the early 19th century, blending African rhythms and styles with European clog and Irish step dancing. It’s characterized by rhythmic footwork and the use of metal taps attached to the soles of shoes to create percussive sounds. Tap helps teach dancers rhythm, it fuels creativity and it challenges their minds with intricate footwork.

PRE-POINTE is part of advanced ballet training as it strengthens the body for the rigors of pointe shoes. Only students who have a significant ballet background and dance many hours a week should consider this class. Teachers will have final approval over roster. Pointe shoes will not be worn in this class.
