Be a S.T.A.R. Program/ Special Needs
*SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM*

Does your child love to dance, but requires a specialized style of teaching? This program provides classes specifically tailored for students ages 8+ that will allow students to gain balance between the two halves of the body, express emotion, and gain muscle control, all while having a fun and making some new friends.

This program is for our special needs students who may require a little different style of class.
S.T.A.R. stands for sensory, therapeutic recreation, acrobatics, rhythm. We work on communication, waiting, conditioning, strengthening, socializing, action songs, imitation, following instructions, and learning the intro to basic dance/acro skills. We provide dance buddy helpers that are neurotypical students for our friends to follow!

Work with the owner/artistic director who has a degree in occupational therapy and is a licensed COTA specializing in children with autism, but experienced in a variety of diagnoses along with three other previously trained and certified behavior therapists!!

This is a great way to get involved in an extracurricular activity while improving motor skills, confidence, and socialization. Dance can also be a unique and effective way to reach students with special needs because it is nonverbal. Through simple patterns, sequencing, and repetition, students will learn the basics of movement, rhythm, and different genres of dance. Some creative movement and yoga are incorporated into class, too.

Please wear moveable activewear and barefoot. This class will require tap shoes, as we will be exploring the sound and sensory input provided by tap dancing for portions of the class. These can be purchased through the studio for $30-$40 depending on size. Please make an appt in the office week (1) for a shoe fitting and pay at the time of your appt.
