Acro Gymnastics 1 - Session 1

In Acro Gymnastics 1, students build strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination while developing a solid foundation in gymnastics-based movement. This camp introduces fundamental body shapes such as hollow body, lunge, and straddle, and helps students to grow their body awareness, control, and confidence in how they move. Students will begin developing foundational gymnastics skills, including forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, and bridges.

Aerial Tumblers will learn some fun basics on aerial sling and general tumbling as well as gaining the strength, active flexibility and mental focus required to move on to Aerial Intro. Students will learn body shapes like plank, hollow body, tuck, pike and straddle, as well as how to safely hang and invert. We will begin with gymnastics games and then focus on tumbling skills including front and backwards roll and cartwheels.

UMO School and the Vashon Grappling Club are partnering to offer Japanese Judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu. These kindred gentle martial arts will help young students learn confidence, patience, perseverance, kinesthetic awareness, and martial skills. The goal of these sports is to encourage your opponent into surrender using techniques of leverage, holds and throws. Classes will consist of warm-ups and conditioning, technical instruction and practice (throws or take-downs, submissions and defenses), randori (free sparring), and games. The course will be taught by club instructors, Sean Lang and Bobby Dodd.

This class is perfect for our younger students looking for an introduction to lyra! Build your hoop skills, flow, transitions, and strength. Explore spinning and beginner combinations. This course is open to aerial students in Aerial Intro B and above who feel comfortable hanging from straight and bent arms with feet off the floor, as well as mounting a lyra or trapeze using a tuck, straddle, or “sloth” mount independently.

In Acro Gymnastics 2, students continue building strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination while deepening and expanding their skills in gymnastics and acro. This class focuses on developing greater control, mastering technique, and building consistency in fundamental skills such as cartwheels, handstands, bridges, and forward and backward rolls. As students grow in strength and confidence, they begin working toward more advanced skills, which may include round-offs, front and back walkovers, and handsprings.

Jiu Jitsu Lab - Adult (Su26)

Jiu Jitsu Lab is an adult, all levels meetup. Martial Arts instructors Bobby Dodd and Sean Lang will lead these sessions along with other high ranking Vashon martial artists and guest grapplers dropping in to share their knowledge. The class will focus on a collaborative approach which analyzes and works through the myriad of technical aspects of a variety of grappling arts, namely Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling. General fitness will be cultivated through dynamic warm ups, flowing movements, and light stretching. Technical knowledge will be gained by practicing and reviewing common techniques and social connections will be formed through mutually beneficial practice. Sparring is optional.
