Beginner Ballet
In Beginner Ballet, students continue to expand ballet vocabulary and work toward a more traditional structure of class with warm-up, progression of exercises in the center, and jumping. Use of imagery and improvisation are incorporated to enhance learning and artistry. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment. Focus is also on continuing to build stronger foundations in barre work.

Tap class focuses on teaching students classical tap steps, rhythm and technique. Class consists of warm up, stretching, steps and combinations. Mr. Bennett emphasizes proper alignment, conditioning, strength, musicality, flexibility and coordination. Your tap shoes are your instrument and you are the musician playing your instrument. Tap gives the student a better sense of rhythm intertwined with the beat of the music.

Beginner Hip Hop is an introduction to Hip Hop and jazz funk style dance. This high energy class will include technique and choreography along with freestyle improvisation. Class will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip Hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as blending modern and contemporary dance styles.

Intermediate Contemporary is a movement-based class which focuses on detailed floor work and expression. Building on skills learned in Ballet class, Contemporary promotes the elements of improvisation, creativity, musicality and weight and body placement. Functionality includes exploring the patterns typical of Contemporary dance: falling and recovering, spiraling, contracting and releasing, leaning and tilting.

This class and form of dance emphasizes learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and creating specific facial expressions while developing insight into the necessary showmanship required to present stage choreography . Students will be taught acting exercises which develop the tools to effectively storytell through body presentation.

COMPANY requires an audition or placement class prior to enrollment. This class focuses on advanced barre work, center exercises, across the floor combinations, pointe work and ballet variations. Students learn advanced technique, while emphasizing musicality, discipline, and professionalism. Students at this level are required to take class at least 3 times a week for optimal growth. COMPANY will perform at specific venues throughout the season.

Intermediate B Ballet focuses on the balletic complications of port de bras and the use of the head in a formalized way as students start to build more artistry in their technique. A high work ethic is expected at this level, as the students begin to dedicate more time in the studio to learn and progress. They combine concepts within exercises to prepare them for more advanced levels of training.

Creative Movement is a 45 minute preparatory class where our 3 and 4 year old students are introduced to concepts of musical phrasing, placement of the body, dynamics and coordination. This class encourages early socialization and creativity, develops physical strength, and spatial awareness. The students learn to create specific shapes with their bodies while exploring improvisation themes through music and movement.

It emphasizes suspension, which is moving through a position rather than balancing. This advanced class is fast-paced and incorporates jazz positions, turns, jumps and leaps. Dancers increase flexibility and strength as they work through accelerated Jazz choreography.
