Combination Class
This class combines the techniques of both afro-jazz and modern, contemporary, and lyrical into one class. Afro-Jazz dance is a fusion of African, Afro-Brazilian, Caribbean and jazz dance styles. Classes are up-beat and begin with a warm-up, followed by movement across the floor and a choreographed combination. Modern/Contemporary is one of the most expressive forms of dance which incorporates various styles of movement and improvisation. Tea & Tendus
Join us for our relaxing yet invigorating Adult "Tea and Tendu" class, where the elegance of ballet meets the calm of a post-session tea gathering. This class is designed for adult dancers of all levels, from absolute beginners to those returning to the barre, who want to build strength, improve flexibility, and enjoy a welcoming community environment.
The session is structured like a traditional ballet class, divided into two main sections:
* Barre Work (Tendu Focus): The class begins at the barre with a comprehensive warm-up, focusing on core ballet fundamentals. A significant portion of this time will be dedicated to mastering the tendu and related movements (like dégagé and plié), helping participants develop proper alignment, coordination, and muscle memory. This section is essential for preparing the body for center work.
* Center Work: Moving away from the barre, participants will practice fundamental movements without support, focusing on balance and body placement. This may include simple port de bras (arm movements), basic adagio, and introductory petit allégro (small jumps).
* Reverence: The dance portion concludes with a traditional reverence, a graceful way to show gratitude to the instructor and fellow dancers.
* Tea Social: Following the physical class, participants are invited to cool down and connect over a curated selection of fine teas and light refreshments. This social element provides a relaxed atmosphere to build community and discuss the joys of dance.
Key Benefits
* Improve Posture and Core Strength: Ballet training is renowned for its benefits in developing strong posture and a stable core.
* Increase Flexibility and Balance: Gradual progression of exercises helps to enhance overall flexibility, coordination, and balance.
* Mental Engagement: Memorizing and retaining sequences throughout the class offers a great mental workout.
* Social Connection: The integrated tea time fosters a friendly, supportive environment for meeting like-minded adults.
What to Wear
* Comfortable, form-fitting exercise clothing that allows for a full range of motion is ideal. Things like leotards, form fitting t-shirts, leggings. Avoid baggy clothes.
* Ballet shoes if you have them; socks may be worn as well.
