In its third year, the Empowered Presence half day camp for pre-teen dancers provides a brand new approach to dance training. Through daily practice of body-mind awareness, the five senses, our proprioceptive abilities, and imaginative impulse, we will connect to our bodies' inherent intelligence, and learn to listen to its wisdom. Dancers will have two daily technique classes in various styles that focus on empowered response: the art of choosing our next action, consciously rather than reacting. Focusing on how sound, words, music, and story influence our state, we will learn how to interpret cues and sensations in the body that communicate our needs. Special Guests will be with us during the week to teach us how to incorporate self-care and wellness practices into our daily lives.

Summer 2025 Afternoon Classes
Intro To Choreography for Teens (Ages 13-18)- Six Week Series
This introductory class is offered to dancers, Ages 13-18, who wish to start developing their own choreographic work for the stage. In this six week series, dancers will learn about the building blocks of dance composition: Shape, Space, Level, Tempo, and Movement Quality, and learn to utilize them in visually interesting and meaningful ways. Students will create and show movement "studies" that demonstrate their creative exploration of each concept. Additional concepts include the principles of Choreography, including Contrast, Repetition And Variation, Theme, Form, and how to choose music for dance composition. Prerequisite: at least two years of dance technique study. This Introductory Level is required to move on to the next level. Following the completion of the second level, dancers are invited to create their original pieces to be performed on our June program. Enrollment minimum: 6 students.
