Christina Perry
US Constitution and Government by The Good and The Beautiful-Middle School
Course Overview:
The Good and the Beautiful US Constitution and Government is a course designed to teach students about the establishment and early development of America’s government through the study of the founding documents-the declaration of independence, the constitution, and the 27th amendments-and the lives of the founding fathers and mothers. This course includes inspirational, biographies, an exciting adventure story, informative lessons, fun and instructive hands-on activities, teacher led discussion, beautiful, mini books, and a complete reading of the founding documents. Students in middle school will gain a deep understanding of the principles that guided those who founded America’s republic, including justice, liberty, duty, and equality.
This is a very thorough course, and could serve as a high school credit, though some of the activities may feel a bit young. Some parents might wish to include additional work like research papers or history documentaries to beef this up for High school credit.
As always, we at In The Light are here to serve as Co-Teachers with you, the parent, and we support you adding any material you wish for your own child; however, these assignments will not be graded or reflected by In The Light. You may add them to your child’s overall score for your own transcripts.
Students will need to purchase:
Student workbook from thegoodandthebeautiful.com
https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/products/us-constitution-and-government-student-journal-one-per-child-grades-4-8
Supplies List:
Journal (already listed)
1 ream paper for the year
1" binder
Colored pencils/crayons/markers
Pencils
3 boxes tissue
Access to a computer at home for research/writing reports
Additional supplies will be needed throughout the year, small purchases like a poster board. I will give notice when these needs arise.

Ballet (13-18) A/B
Mandie Crosby
Ballet 13-18, Technique Class: focuses on learning and performing excerpts from famous classical and neoclassical ballets, allowing dancers to experience the artistry and technique. These This class will emphasize both technical precision and the dramatic interpretation required to bring the character and music to life.
Key elements-
Learning Repertoire:
Dancers will learn specific variations (solos or short sequences) from well-known ballets.
Technical Focus:
Classes will address the specific steps, movements, and positions within the variation, including traveling, arm movements, and leg positions.
Artistry and Interpretation:
Emphasis is placed on understanding the musicality, character, and dramatic intent of the variation to create a compelling performance.
Stage Presence:
The class will incorporate elements of presentation and how to connect with an audience.
Musicality:
Music plays a crucial role in understanding the phrasing, dynamics, and emotional nuances of the variation.
Pointe Work: incorporated for advanced dancers.
Building Confidence:
These classes can also help dancers become more comfortable with learning choreography and performing in a studio setting.
Modern dance repertoire classes are designed for dancers who have a solid foundation in modern dance technique and are ready to explore and perform existing choreographic works. These classes often focus on the repertoire and works of renowned contemporary choreographers, similar to how ballet variations classes focus on master works of ballet.
What to expect
Learning choreography: The core of the class involves learning and rehearsing set pieces of choreography, often taken from existing modern dance works.
Focus on technique and style: Dancers refine their technique and adaptability to different styles and qualities of movement required for each piece of repertoire.
Developing performance skills: Attention is paid to musicality, phrasing, projection, and the overall artistry required for performing.
Exploring artistic expression: Dancers delve into the emotional and narrative aspects of the repertoire, learning to interpret and communicate the choreographer's intentions.
Physical demands: These classes are typically challenging and require strength, flexibility, stamina, and a good understanding of modern dance principles like contractions, spirals, fall and recovery, and floor work.
Historical and contextual knowledge: Understanding the historical context and background of the choreography may also be incorporated to deepen the dancer's appreciation and interpretation of the work.
