5th/6th Grade
Nikki Jaspersen
In 5th and 6th grade, we will use a variety of curriculum to focus on character building and keeping God at the center of our learning.
We will have a strong focus on academics including math, science, history, geography, literature, grammar, and spelling.
We will be using Saxon for math, and if you do not want to personally grade your child's answers (need to purchase teacher's guide if you do) but still desire the extra accountability, the child will need access to a computer to enter their answers on mymathassistant.com to get it graded. It is $5 a month. They can input their answers on a home computer and will not need access to one at school. I will teach them how to organize it so it is simple to put the answers in once they arrive home.
We will be focusing on the US Constitution and Government using the Good and the Beautiful for the basis of our curriculum. We will memorize a portion of the Preamble and have a grasp on the Amendments, and how our government is run. We will go over states, capitals, and map blobbing as well.
For science we will be using The Good and the Beautiful for unit studies. We will do their Paleontology and Marine Biology Units with the possibility of adding a third. We will be doing experiments and projects throughout the year.
For Language Arts we will be using Christian Light. Spelling and Vocabulary will be included.
Items needed:
-Zipper binder
-7 divider folders.
-Zipper pouch that has holes to attach into their zipper binder.
-1 ream of wide ruled lined paper
-Saxon Math for their level
-Saxon teacher's guide or I HIGHLY recommend a subscription to mymathassistant.com. It provides immediate feedback on their grasp of concepts
-Christian Light Language Arts Curriculum for their level. (There are 10 light units for each grade. All 10 are needed. Teacher's guide is recommended but not required).
-pencils
-colored pens
-markers
-colored pencils
More information and items for purchase will be added later.
$75 supply fee.

Emily Olomiye
This year we will learn a lot through play. We will focus on math, reading, and handwriting skills using a multi sensory approach to reach all types of learners. We will use a variety of curriculum and games and all learning will happen gently. I plan to have a letter of the week with a corresponding Bible verse and fun treat to reinforce their phonics. We will also focus on fine and gross motor skills. We will have fun with science (including experiments and projects) and emphasize on character traits such as integrity and honesty. We will also have learning centers which will allow a few minutes for each child to work in small groups with me to work on their personal goals.
My goal is to make them love learning. The only curriculum needed for purchase is Christian Light Kindergarten II workbooks 1-5. One day a week this class will have art for 30 minutes one day and music for 30 minutes the other day. One day a library trip, a recess (PE) time
We will also incorporate other fun activities for our students like show and tell, field trips, and spirit week (or month). As a class we will also enjoy trips to the local park as weather permits and trips to the library's book mobile where they can check books out to take home (with your card and permission). (I limit them to two at a time to not overwhelm the parents)
There will be a $125 supply fee that will cover classroom supplies, phonics, treats, and art fee.
** If your child takes naps regularly, please try to stretch them past 2:00 to help their bodies adjust. ** Children are encouraged to bring a toy each week (must be able to fit in a back pack) to encourage creative play.
Supplies: We will have a communal supply box. Please bring the following to contribute.-Safety scissors-Pencils-Crayons (ONLY 8 pack please Crayola preferred)-Markers (basic 10 pack) -Pack of dry erase markers-Water color paint-Elmer's glue liquid and stick -Eraser-Pencil sharpener-roll of paper towels Supplies for their personal use:- Back pack -Lunch box (lunch and snack needed everyday)-Water bottle (SPILL PROOF!!)-Pack of index cards for home (you will make two sets of alphabet flash cards for review games at home)-X-Large old shirt to protect clothes when we are getting creative

This class is a level 1 in ASL.
We will use Lifeprint.com as a guideline and as a curriculum base.
The main series of lessons in the ASL University curriculum are based on accelerated language acquisition techniques that make use of "word frequency" research and focus on the most common concepts and words used in everyday communication.
Thus the lessons are designed to help a student reach communicative competence very quickly-- based on science combined with over two decades of real world teaching experience.

Algebra 2
Kjia Orstad
Saxon’s Algebra 2 covers a typical second year of Algebra as well as a semester’s worth of Geometry. In class, we will explore topics that include 1 to 2 lessons from the text as well as review any questions from homework.
Prerequisites: Algebra 1 and Geometry, or Saxon’s Algebra 1
Course Materials:
Textbook: Saxon Algebra 2: An Incremental Development, Third Edition and the solutions step by step manual.
Binder,
Pencils,
Loose Leaf Paper,

We strongly recommend getting a subscription to mymathassistant. Your child will need access to a computer to enter their answers on mymathassistant.com to get it graded. It is $5 a month. Spanish 1
Sharon Hartnagel
It's my desire and goal that my students learn conversational Spanish. I provide a solid foundation on which to build further learning, while making it fun! I progress at the speed of each class, reviewing often and when necessary. "Fiestas" create an added element of learning as I introduce different cultural topics. I strive to point toward Jesus' prayer request: "Pray therefore the Lord of the Harvest, that He will send laborers into His Harvest." Matthew 9:38
We will begin working through McGraw Hill's "Complete Spanish - step by step". These may be purchased online for $25 (which should last 3 years). I will be supplementing this with Hispanic Culture studies which will enhance both reading comprehension as well as cultural exposure. "Extra practice" worksheets will be added where necessary. Listening Comprehension is essential. Pencils or pens and a spiral notebook for extra notes is needed.

Algebra 1
Ressa Elliott
Saxon Algebra 1 covers a typical first year of Algebra as well as a semester's worth of Geometry. In class we will explore topics that include 1 to 2 lessons from the text as well as review any questions from homework. Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra or Saxon Algebra 1/2 course
Materials: Textbook: Saxon Algebra 1: An Incremental
Development, Third Edition,
Binder,
Pencils,
Loose Leaf Paper,
Scientific Calculator (preferably a Texas Instruments 30
calculator)
We will be using Saxon for math, and if you do not want to personally grade your child's answers (need to purchase teacher's guide if you do) but still desire the extra accountability, the child will need access to a computer to enter their answers on mymathassistant.com to get it graded. It is $5 a month. They can input their answers on a home computer and will not need access to one at school. I will teach them how to organize it so it is simple to put the answers in once they arrive home.

We will dabble in all areas of psychology, from general psychology to developmental, social, and criminal psychology. Don’t worry, parents; we aren’t going to get gruesome.
I love studying how God created our minds and learning how to use modern research in conjunction with Scripture to better understand it. There will be a $90 fee to cover the cost of renting the Baby Think It Over dolls, which we will use in conjunction with our child development portion of psychology.
This class will set students up, who are attending college, to navigate the social science world from a Christian perspective. For those not attending college, it will be an interesting learning elective that will help them relate and empathize with other people.
