For occasional classes cancelled due to any unforeseen reason, advance notice will be given by the Academy, please monitor emails and social media posts regularly for updates.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures:
To ensure the safety of our students and avoid parking lot chaos, please do NOT wait in your car for students at the front entrance, blocking traffic. Please follow the parking lot guidelines for allowing a flow of traffic to continue. See parking lot diagram here.
Parents of dancers 10 and under should bring them into the studio, and pick them up from inside the building to ensure their safety.
Being on time to class is important. Dancers should arrive early enough to use the restroom, and be ready with appropriate hairstyle and dress code before their class begins. Refer to the leveled dress code below.
Absences/Illnesses:
Please keep your child at home under the following conditions:
If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, please keep your child home until he/she is fever free without the use of fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours.
If your child vomits or has diarrhea in the 12 hours before class.
If your child has nasal drainage that is green or yellow consistently throughout the day.
If your child is recovering from surgery or other type of procedure that requires pain medication stronger than Tylenol or Advil (such as a narcotic).
If your child is too ill to go outside for outdoor activities or to the gym for play.
Class absences due to illness or other reasons may be made up WITHIN THE CURRENT SEMESTER/SESSION in which the absences occur. Please contact the Academy Director to schedule your make-up class.

Students should keep their belongings organized in designated areas. Valuables should be left at home, including all jewelry as it is not allowed in class. Ballet Wichita and Ballet Wichita Academy are not responsible for lost, misplaced or stolen items.

*Level 1 - Level 5: The official uniform will be worn to one stated class per week, with additional classes wearing a leotard (females) / shirt (males) in
the style of the dancer’s choice, but in the coordinating level color. Please see the class schedule in the registration portal for

Shoes
A dancer’s shoes are of utmost importance. Well fitted shoes, that properly support the dancer’s training, of a brand that will hold up under repeated wear are recommended.
Levels 2 - 5: all dancers should be wearing shoes purchased from Attitudes Dancewear, etc. or dance-specific retailers like Discount Dance Supply online. Shoes
purchased on Amazon, and from retailers like Wal-Mart and Target are not permitted for levels two and up.
Annual Academy Showcase
Each May, students may opt-in to an annual showcase to demonstrate their personal growth and class progress through the year. This performance is not required, but is a yearly milestone in a dancer’s life to celebrate their hard work in front of an audience. Participation is highly encouraged! Each year an opt-in deadline will be given to all Academy dancers and parents. Please watch for emails in the Spring semester with details.
Showcase choreography will be worked on during class time and will be scheduled for additional rehearsal run-through(s) the week prior to the Showcase performance.
There will be an additional “choreographer selections” portion of the showcase for invited dancers levels III and up. This is also optional, and will be rehearsed outside of regular class times.
Choosing not to participate in the showcase does not end the learning journey. All dancers will continue to grow by developing technique, musicality, movement patterns, group coordination, memorization, and by exploring character work and dramatic expression through choreography.
Ballet Wichita Academy will assess a performance fee to participate in The Academy Showcase.
The official class uniform is used for the showcase, so there is no extra cost incurred to costume your dancer.
One free ticket per dancer will be given to each family. Additional tickets will be sold as well.
As the showcase draws near, attendance to class is vital to the group’s success and absences should be kept to a minimum. Please communicate all absences through your parent portal.
Class Observations
Once a semester, parents / guardians are invited into the studio to observe the classes their dancer participates in. Those dates will be communicated on the Academy Calendar and through email and social media updates.
Please observe the following Observation Guidelines to maintain an encouraging, respectful learning atmosphere:
- Silence all cell phones and electronic devices. Step out of the classroom for a call.
- Pictures of your student are welcome! Permission to post on social media is granted, please tag us @BalletWichitaAcademy. Do not post other students without
their permission.
- Refrain from conversation during class.
- Please arrange for small siblings to remain at home.
- Clapping, smiling, and encouraging all dancers is always promoted at BWA.
At all other times, parents & guardians are not permitted in the studios unless expressly invited by an Academy faculty / staff member.
Communication with Instructors:
The instructors have a very tight schedule and are not always able to meet with parents or students individually before, during or after classes. Please respect the instructors private time and do not contact them on their personal phone, email or social media accounts. If you have a question for an instructor, please email at academy@balletwichita.com to schedule an appointment.

Building Hours and Occupation
We love that our dancers, staff and volunteers want to continue working in our facilities making magic long after class or rehearsals end, but we also want to be respectful of the need to balance that against rest and recharging. Below are the general time frames in which the building will be open for business.
We know that the need to arrive early or stay late might arise outside of the hours described below. We also know that the need might arise last minute. Despite when the need arises, the Facilities Use Form MUST be filled out so we know who is utilizing the facilities outside of standard operating hours. If there is an issue/conflict with your request you will be contacted by the Company Director, otherwise you can assume your request has been approved.
There will be a QR code posted in the studio and the form will be on the website and emailed for easy utilization.
Dancer Use:
The building will be officially open fifteen (15) minutes before the first class or thirty (30) minutes before the first rehearsal for the day. For company dancers and level 3+ Academy dancers who wish to warm up prior to class/rehearsal, the building will be available thirty (30) minutes before class/rehearsal. If a dancer would like to arrive earlier than the timeframe outlined above, the Facilities Use Form must be filled out and submitted to the Company Director prior to arriving at the facilities.
All dancers are expected to depart the facility no later than thirty (30) minutes after their last class or rehearsal. If a dancer would like to continue working beyond that thirty (30) minute window, the Facilities Use Form must be filled out and submitted to the Company Director prior to remaining at the facilities.
Lobby & Front Door:
Respect fellow students and parents when waiting in the lobby. Due to the layout of the building, voices carry and a quiet atmosphere in the lobby is appreciated in the studios. Please keep the number of people in the lobby at any time to a minimum.
For the safety of our students, the front doors may be locked during some classes. If you arrive and the door is locked, PLEASE USE THE DOORBELL on the right of the main door and wait patiently for someone to open the door.
