JUNIOR: Modern
Kick off your shoes off and explore new ways to move through the style of modern dance. Rhythmic drums are prominent in the music, teaching dancers how to feel the pulse of the song and count the beats. Dancers learn to control their balance as they roll, prance, and leap through space. Improvisation is included in every class, allowing time for dancers to explore their own movement ideas through prompts. Improvisation is vital in gaining confidence in self expression and developing skills in students who hope to choreograph their own dances in the future.

Modern dance evolved from ballet and is a creative art form that uses natural and abstract movements, instead of the standardized movements of classical ballet. The movements express ideas, feelings, and emotions. Modern is known for its independence, invention, and non-traditional attitude, but it does use classical ballet vocabulary and terminology, as well as ballet exercises, and thus ballet experience is recommended.
