PARENT & DANCER CODE OF CONDUCT

Oct 02, 2026 07:08 AM

At Momentum Dance Center, we believe dance should be a place where dancers feel safe, supported, respected, challenged, and encouraged to grow. Our studio is built on teamwork, hard work, kindness, and a commitment to putting dancers first.

By enrolling in Momentum Dance Center, dancers and parents/guardians agree to follow the expectations outlined below.

1. RESPECT

Everyone at Momentum Dance Center deserves to be treated with respect.

Dancers and parents/guardians are expected to:

Treat instructors, staff, dancers, families, judges, competition staff, and other studios with kindness and respect.
Use appropriate and respectful language.
Listen when instructors or staff are speaking.
Respect different abilities, personalities, backgrounds, and levels of experience.
Respect the studio, equipment, costumes, props, and personal belongings of others.
Represent Momentum Dance Center positively both inside and outside of the studio.

Disrespectful, threatening, aggressive, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

2. DANCER EXPECTATIONS

Dancers are expected to:

Arrive on time and prepared for class.
Bring the appropriate shoes, attire, and equipment.
Come to class ready to learn and participate.
Follow instructor directions and safety expectations.
Give their best effort, even when something is challenging.
Encourage and support their fellow dancers.
Take corrections positively and use them as opportunities to improve.
Keep hands, feet, and personal belongings to themselves.
Clean up after themselves.
Avoid disruptive behavior during class.
Communicate appropriately with instructors when they have a concern or need assistance.

Dancers are expected to understand that correction is part of dance training. Instructors may challenge dancers, ask them to try something differently, or hold them to a higher standard. Corrections are intended to help dancers grow and should never be taken as a personal attack.

3. PARENT/GUARDIAN EXPECTATIONS

Parents and guardians play an important role in creating a positive dance environment.

Parents/guardians are expected to:

Support their dancer without creating unnecessary pressure.
Respect the decisions and expertise of instructors and studio staff.
Communicate concerns directly with the studio rather than discussing them publicly or with other families.
Avoid gossip, negativity, or conversations that could create conflict within the studio community.
Refrain from coaching or correcting dancers during class unless specifically asked by an instructor.
Follow studio policies regarding observation, drop-off, pickup, competitions, rehearsals, and performances.
Allow instructors to teach without interruption or interference.
Encourage their dancer to work through challenges rather than immediately stepping in.
Model the same respect and sportsmanship expected from dancers.
4. NO BULLYING, HARASSMENT, OR DRAMA

Momentum Dance Center has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, intimidation, threats, or intentional exclusion.

This includes behavior that occurs:

At the studio
At competitions
At performances
During conventions or workshops
In group chats
Through text messages
On social media
Online or through other electronic communication

This applies to dancers, parents, guardians, and anyone representing a Momentum Dance Center family.

Disagreements are bound to happen. How we handle those disagreements matters. Concerns should be addressed respectfully and directly with the appropriate studio staff member.

5. SOCIAL MEDIA

Dancers and parents/guardians are expected to use social media responsibly.

Do not post or share content that:

Harasses, threatens, embarrasses, or bullies another dancer or family.
Attacks or intentionally discredits Momentum Dance Center, its instructors, dancers, or families.
Shares private studio communications without permission.
Creates unnecessary conflict or drama.
Misrepresents another dancer, instructor, or family.
Includes inappropriate or offensive content while representing the studio.

A disagreement with the studio should be handled privately and respectfully rather than through social media.

6. COMPETITIONS & EVENTS

When representing Momentum Dance Center at competitions, conventions, performances, or other events, dancers and families are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship.

This includes:

Respecting judges and competition staff.
Respecting other studios and dancers.
Supporting fellow Momentum dancers.
Being gracious whether we win, lose, place, or receive an award.
Following competition rules.
Being respectful in hotels, venues, restaurants, and other public spaces.
Remembering that dancers and parents represent Momentum Dance Center wherever they go.
7. COMMUNICATION

We want parents to feel comfortable communicating with us.

If a concern arises:

Step 1: Allow time to gather information and cool down before responding.

Step 2: Contact the appropriate instructor or studio owner privately.

Step 3: Give the studio an opportunity to listen, investigate, and respond.

Public arguments, group messages, social media posts, or involving other families in a disagreement are not appropriate methods of resolving concerns.

We may not always agree, but we can always communicate respectfully.

8. SAFETY FIRST

Safety is one of Momentum Dance Center's highest priorities.

Dancers are expected to:

Follow all safety instructions.
Never attempt skills without appropriate instruction or supervision.
Inform an instructor if they are injured or experiencing pain.
Use equipment and props appropriately.
Follow dress and footwear requirements.
Avoid behavior that could put themselves or another dancer at risk.

Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the studio of injuries, medical concerns, or other circumstances that may affect safe participation.

9. CONSEQUENCES

Momentum Dance Center reserves the right to address conduct that does not meet these expectations.

Depending on the situation, consequences may include:

Verbal or written warning.
Parent/guardian meeting.
Removal from a class, rehearsal, event, or competition activity.
Temporary suspension from studio activities.
Removal from the Company Dance Team or other studio program.
Termination of enrollment or dismissal from Momentum Dance Center.

Serious behavior, including threats, harassment, bullying, violence, or behavior that creates a safety concern, may result in immediate action.

Momentum Dance Center reserves the right to determine the appropriate response based on the circumstances.

10. OUR COMMITMENT

Momentum Dance Center is committed to creating an environment where dancers can grow as dancers and as people.

We want our dancers to leave the studio with more than improved technique. We want them to develop:

Confidence.
Strength.
Discipline.
Resilience.
Kindness.
Respect.
A love for dance.

We ask our families to help us create a studio culture where dancers can make mistakes, learn, work hard, celebrate one another, and feel proud to be part of Momentum Dance Center.
