Registration and Commitment
• Lesson Commitment and Calendar: New students may enroll at any time. Once enrolled, students do not need to re-register from year to year or term to term; your lesson registration is ongoing until we receive your notice of withdrawal. The standard school year comprises 34 lessons Labor Day through May, and the standard summer term comprises 7 lessons June through Labor Day. Your teacher will provide you with specific lesson dates at the beginning of the year or term. Contact your teacher directly with any questions about their teaching dates.
• Class/Camp/Ensemble/Workshop Commitment and Calendar: Students may register in the Portal at any time during the registration window for a class/camp/ensemble/workshop. Deposits and application fees are nonrefundable.
• Withdrawals and Transfers: To withdraw, email registration@laurelschoolofmusic.org with 30 days written notice; you will owe tuition for that notice period. To transfer instructors, email registration@laurelschoolofmusic.org with 30 days written notice to request placement with another teacher; in such cases, any tuition paid is transferable to lessons with your new teacher.
• Make-Up Policies and Weather: If your teacher must cancel a lesson/class for any reason, including bad weather or illness, they will notify you, and you will be entitled to a make-up lesson/class. If your teacher is teaching at the school on a given day, your lessons/classes are held, even in bad weather. Virtual/online lessons may substitute for in-person, on-site lessons in the case of bad weather, illness, or another mutually agreed upon reason.
• Student Cancellations: If you cancel a scheduled lesson with prior notice of at least 24 hours, you may receive up to 1 make-up lesson per year. Student “no shows” or cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will not be made up, and the lesson will be forfeited. Student absences from group classes/camps/ensembles/workshops will not be made up, and are not refundable or transferable. As a courtesy, please notify your teacher if you will be late or absent.
Payment
• Lesson tuition may be paid IN FULL (school year tuition due the first day of the school year; summer tuition due June 15), or in MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS (school year tuition in 10 equal installments due the first day of the school year and then the 15th of each month September through May; summer tuition in 2 equal installments due June 15 and July 15; please note the two due dates in September, and no due date in August).
• Flex pass tuition is due IN FULL by the first lesson of the flex pass. If you continue lessons after using up a flex pass, we will charge your payment method on file for a new flex pass of the same lesson length and quantity.
• Class/camp/ensemble/workshop DEPOSITS and APPLICATION FEES are due upon registration; tuition due dates are detailed in the individual program’s registration materials in the Portal. Deposits and application fees are nonrefundable.
• A nonrefundable registration fee ($35 for the first student and $10 for each additional student on the account) is charged once per school year, due with the student’s first tuition payment of the school year; new students joining in the summer term (June 1 through Labor Day) pay a $10 summer registration fee.
• Other Fees: A nonrefundable $20 late fee applies to invoices which remain unpaid two weeks (14 days) after the due date. A nonrefundable $20 fee applies to cover the cost of a returned check, failed bank account (ACH) payment, or other “insufficient funds” payment failure. A nonrefundable 3% card processing fee applies to all card transactions.
• All accounts must have a valid stored payment method set up in AutoPay in the Portal.
• Cash and paper check payments are only accepted for IN FULL tuition payments; cash and paper check payments are not accepted for MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS. To pay by cash or check, submit your payment at least 5 days prior to the due date to give us time to process your payment before AutoPay payments are processed. Make checks payable to: Laurel School of Music. Write student name(s) on memo line of check.
