Enrolment, Participation & Studio Agreement

1. Participation, health and safety

I consent to my child participating in Pretty Things Dance Studio classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions, workshops and related activities.

I understand that dance, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical and Acro, involves physical risks such as muscle soreness, strains, sprains, falls, collisions and other injuries. The studio takes reasonable precautions and follows safe dance practices, but cannot eliminate all risk.

To the best of my knowledge, my child can safely participate, subject to any conditions or limitations I have disclosed. I will promptly advise the studio of relevant injuries, medical conditions, allergies, medications, disabilities, learning or behavioural support needs, and changes affecting safe participation.

I will make sure that my child understand that they need to tell staff if they feel pain or become unwell. Students who are unwell should stay home.

I will support my child to follow staff instructions, complete warm-ups, wear the Pretty Things Dance Studio uniform and the allocated footwear, with hair tied back neatly.

2. Teaching and physical guidance

I understand that Dance is a tactile art form and sport and dance instruction may include physical guidance or correction for learning and safety. Staff will explain its purpose, seek the student’s agreement where practical, and respect their comfort and boundaries. Students may ask for verbal instruction or demonstration instead. Necessary assistance may be provided to prevent immediate injury.

3. Emergency assistance

If my child becomes ill or injured, I authorise staff to provide appropriate first aid and obtain medical assistance, including an ambulance where reasonably necessary. Staff will attempt to contact me or my nominated emergency contact, without delaying urgent assistance.

I accept responsibility for medical and transport charges payable by me, subject to any applicable entitlement or legal right to recover those costs.

4. Attendance, supervision and collection

Please arrive 5–10 minutes before class and collect students promptly afterwards. Parents remain responsible for children before they are handed over to staff. Students must wait inside and be collected from the foyer by a parent, guardian or authorised adult. Staff will supervise students awaiting collection.

A parent or guardian of a child under seven must remain in the studio waiting area and be available for toileting assistance. Staff will direct or escort younger students to their parent. Older students must ask permission to use the bathroom, with appropriate supervision from the foyer.

Staff will respect students’ privacy and will not enter toilet cubicles except in an emergency or where urgent assistance is necessary. Students are encouraged to use the bathroom before class.

Parents should wait in designated areas during regular classes. Observation is available on designated days, with reasonable adjustments considered where a child needs additional support.

5. Studio expectations and conduct

Students and families must treat staff, other families, facilities and equipment respectfully.

Please do not hold teachers in conversation during class time. Teaching time is limited, and instructors need to give students their full attention. If you need to speak with a teacher, please do so before class where time permits, contact the studio to arrange a suitable time, or email pt.dancestudio@gmail.com.

Pretty Things Dance Studio maintains a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, intimidation, malicious gossip, deliberate misinformation and disrespectful or disruptive behaviour towards the studio, its staff, students or families.

Parents and guardians are expected to keep waiting-room conversations respectful. Disparaging or disruptive commentary about studio fees, costume costs or other charges, including negative comparisons with other studios or clubs, is not acceptable in front of students and families.

All parents and guardians are expected to communicate respectfully and raise concerns directly with studio management. Questions, financial concerns or disagreements about costs should be raised privately with management and will be treated respectfully.

Genuine complaints, good-faith reports and respectful disagreements are always welcome and will not themselves be treated as misconduct.

The studio may stop participation immediately where necessary for safety. Pretty Things Dance Studio reserves the right to refuse service, suspend attendance or terminate enrolment where serious or repeated misconduct occurs, including without prior warning in cases of serious misconduct. In responding to concerns, the studio will take account of the student’s age, disability and support needs. Any termination and applicable refunds will be handled in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

Students must follow safety instructions, bring water, keep hair securely tied back and remove jewellery that presents a safety risk. Food, gum and drinks other than water are not permitted in dance areas.

Families should label belongings and avoid bringing valuables. The studio cannot guarantee the security of personal property. This does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

By enrolling, parents and guardians acknowledge and agree to these standards of conduct.

6. Uniform and footwear

Students must wear clean, Pretty Things Dance Studio Uniform that allows safe movement. Shoes must be clean and in good condition, and hair must be securely tied away from the face.

Ballet: leotard, tights, skirt and pink ballet split sole shoes.
Jazz: suitable studio uniform and black jazz shoes.
Lyrical, Contemporary and Acro: suitable studio uniform combinations.
Contemporary footwear: bare feet, toe undies or grip dance socks.
Acro footwear: bare feet.

Temporary footwear exceptions may be approved while new students settle in.

7. Fees, parent portal and overdue accounts

Annual registration is $40 for the first child and $20 for each additional sibling.

Tuition fees are due in full in Week 2 of every term, by the due date displayed in the parent portal. Other invoices, including costumes, shoes, rehearsal and media fees, must be paid by their respective displayed due dates.

A $20 late fee applies to any invoice remaining unpaid after its due date, unless the account is enrolled in Auto Pay under an agreed payment plan, or another payment arrangement has been agreed with studio management, and the agreed payments are being maintained.

Parents and guardians are responsible for accessing the parent portal, checking invoices and statements, and ensuring payment by the due date. Statements are provided through the parent portal and will not routinely be printed or emailed separately.

Logging into the portal late, failing to check an account or not reading a statement does not exempt an account from the late fee. Parents and guardians must promptly contact the studio if they cannot log in and seek assistance before payment is due. Reporting an access issue does not automatically extend the payment deadline; any alternative arrangement must be confirmed by studio management.

Families experiencing financial difficulty should contact the studio before the due date to discuss a payment arrangement.

Unpaid debts, including validly charged late fees that a parent or guardian refuses to pay, will be referred to a debt collection agency once they are more than seven weeks overdue, following written notice, unless an agreed payment arrangement is being maintained.

Ongoing non-payment may also result in suspension of classes, performances, competitions or enrolment. Genuine disputes about charges will be reviewed before collection action continues. Nothing in this policy limits rights under Australian Consumer Law.

8. Absences

Please notify the studio of absences. One make-up class per term may be available within that term, subject to availability and teacher approval.

Missed classes ordinarily do not attract refunds; requests relating to prolonged medical absence will be considered. These arrangements do not limit rights under Australian Consumer Law.

9. Our Annual End-of-Year Concert

Participation in our Annual End-of-Year Concert is optional but encouraged. The concert takes place on the last weekend of November.

Term 4 involves a larger financial commitment due to the professional production. Costumes are expected to cost between $60 and $150. Payment plans for concert fees are available from June each year.

Participation also involves additional rehearsal and media fees. Fee amounts and payment due dates will be communicated to families during the September school holidays.

Annual concert participants must pay the disclosed rehearsal and media fees, in addition to the costume fee, before costumes are sent home with students. Families are responsible for caring for costumes leading up to the event. Costumes remain the property of each family after the concert.

Students performing in the concert do not need a ticket to participate. All family members wishing to watch the performance must purchase a ticket.

10. Communication

Please direct questions, absence notifications, medical updates and other concerns to studio management through the designated communication platform or pt.dancestudio@gmail.com.

Families are responsible for keeping their contact and emergency contact details current and checking studio communications regularly. Updates are shared via the Parent Portal, through email, studio announcements and the Pretty Things Dance Studio: Parents Lounge Facebook group.

11. Acknowledgment and legal rights

I have read this agreement, understand the inherent risks described, and agree to support these studio expectations.

Nothing in this agreement excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under Australian Consumer Law. Acknowledging inherent risks does not waive those rights.

Photo and video permission is recorded separately and is optional.

I confirm that I am the student’s parent or legal guardian, have read and understood the above Enrolment, Participation & Studio Agreement, and agree to its terms.
