Commitment to Child Safety

Studio 4 Dance is committed to providing a safe, supportive and positive environment for all students, teachers and families. The safety, wellbeing and protection of children and young people is our highest priority.

Every child has the right to feel safe, respected and supported while participating in classes, rehearsals, performances and all studio activities. Studio 4 Dance maintains a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse, harm, neglect or inappropriate behaviour towards children.

We actively promote a culture where children feel comfortable expressing themselves and raising concerns without fear.


Duty of Care

Studio 4 Dance acknowledges its duty of care to all students and staff members.

We are committed to:
• Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all students.
• Providing a respectful, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Maintaining appropriate supervision of students during all studio activities.
• Promoting positive relationships between staff, students and families.
• Responding promptly and appropriately to any safety or wellbeing concerns.
All teachers, staff and volunteers are expected to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards when interacting with children.


Safe and Supportive Environment

Studio 4 Dance strives to create an environment where all students feel comfortable, valued and secure.

Students should:
• Feel safe at all times while attending the studio.
• Never feel pressured, intimidated, scared or unsafe.
• Be treated with respect and kindness by teachers, staff and other students.
• Be encouraged to communicate openly about their experiences at the studio.
The studio will regularly review and monitor all programs, classes and activities to ensure that they continue to meet appropriate safety and wellbeing standards.


Behaviour Expectations

Studio 4 Dance expects all teachers, staff, volunteers, students and parents to contribute to a safe and respectful environment.

This includes:
• Treating all children with respect, dignity and fairness.
• Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
• Ensuring communication with students is appropriate and respectful.
• Encouraging positive and inclusive behaviour among all students.
• Immediately reporting any behaviour that may place a child at risk.
Any behaviour that compromises the safety or wellbeing of a child will not be tolerated.


Child Safety Reporting Procedure

The safety and wellbeing of children is a shared responsibility. All staff, students and parents are encouraged to raise concerns if they believe a child may be at risk or unsafe.

Reporting a Concern
If a child safety or wellbeing concern arises, the following procedure should be followed:
1. Immediate Safety:
• If a child is in immediate danger or at risk of harm, Studio 4 Dance will take steps to remove and protect the child, if necessary, emergency services may be contacted.
2. Report to Studio Management:
• Any safety or wellbeing concern must be reported to Studio 4 Dance management as soon as possible. This includes concerns relating to:
o Suspected abuse or neglect
o Inappropriate behaviour towards a child
o Bullying or intimidation
o A child feeling unsafe or uncomfortable
o Any incident that may affect a child's wellbeing
• Reports can be made by staff, parents, students or any member of the studio community.
3. Documentation
• The concern or incident will be documented by studio management, including:
i. Date and time of the report
ii. Details of the concern or incident
iii. Individuals involved
iv. Any actions taken at the time
• Accurate records will be maintained in a secure and confidential manner.
4. Assessment of the Situation
• Studio management will review the concern promptly and assess the situation to determine the appropriate course of action. This may include:
i. Speaking with relevant staff members
ii. Gathering additional information
iii. Implementing immediate protective measures if required
5. Mandatory Reporting
• Where required, Studio 4 Dance will follow mandatory reporting obligations and notify the appropriate child protection authorities or relevant agencies in accordance with Australian child safety legislation.
6. Confidential Handling
• All reports will be handled with sensitivity, confidentiality and professionalism. Information will only be shared with those directly involved in managing the situation or when required by law.
7. Follow Up
• Where appropriate, Studio 4 Dance will continue to monitor the situation and provide support to the child involved to ensure their ongoing safety and wellbeing.
