Academy Student Policy Agreement
By enrolling as an Academy Student, you are acknowledging all Academy policies.
Thank you for selecting The Academy of Dance and Gymnastics! We are pleased to have you as our student, and we are committed to providing your child with the best dance and gymnastics training available. Our policies are based on lessons learned over 45 years, helping young people learn dance and gym skills in a positive environment while learning important life lessons.
DROPPING OFF STUDENTS FOR CLASS
• Please bring your child to the main door. Members of our teaching staff will meet you there. Teachers will escort students to class.
• Your child's teacher will introduce themselves, explain our pick-up procedure, and join their class.
• Our teachers and teaching assistants are experienced in helping young dancers and gymnasts succeed in the classroom.
• Once you drop off your dancer or gymnast, please wait outside the studio until pick-up time. We need our lobby areas to organize students for their next class and move through the lobby if they change classes.
PICK UP AFTER CLASS
• At the end of the class, the teaching staff will escort students from the classroom to the door and supervise the parents' pick-up of students.
PARENTS WATCHING CLASSES AND WAITING IN THE STUDIO
• We do not allow parents to sit in on classes. Goal #1 is to have students pay attention to their teacher and learn to be part of a group. Accomplishing this is essential to success, especially with the younger students. Based on 45 years of experience, this is impossible with a parent in the classroom.
• Some students take multiple classes and move to other studios between classes.
• The building does not have enough room for parents to wait inside or sit in the classroom.
• This is why parents do not sit in on daycare, pre-school, or the first grade!
DRESS CODE.
• We have a dress code for dance and gymnastics.
• Ballet, tap, and jazz dancers wear leotards and tights because your teacher needs to see your posture and how you move. Hip-hoppers and Musical Theatre students wear form-fitting clothes (not baggy - leotards are OK) for the same reason. Female ballet dancers wear pink ballet shoes. Boys wear black. Jazz dancers, Hip-hoppers, and Musical Theatre students wear black jazz shoes because they slide properly on the floor and allow dancers to point their feet. Hair must be pinned back.
• Gymnasts take their class barefoot. We say bare legs/bare feet for gym. It is too difficult for a coach to spot a handstand with pants or tights on legs. Hair must be pinned back. Loose hair or braids get caught in a handstand! For gym a leotard (without skirt) is perfect.
• Each Academy location has a store where we sell leotards, tights, and dance shoes. And, our staff knows how to fit dance shoes properly.
TUITION AND PAYMENTS
• Our annual tuition is paid over a 10-month period. Most months, your child will have 4 dance classes. However, some months have 3 classes, and some months have 5 classes. Tuition remains the same for each month. You do not pay by the class. We do not prorate tuition. If your child misses a class or the studio is closed, they can make up a class.
• Monthly tuition is due by the 10th of each month and late after the 10th. Late payments incur a $15 late fee.
• Students 2 months behind in tuition will not be able to take class.
• Tuition must be current to participate in Academy shows and performances.
• Most people pay online through our Parent Portal.
