ATTENDANCE For the best dance education results, regular class attendance is important. If, however, a student does need to be absent, attendance at another class to make-up within 4 weeks is encouraged. Please call ahead to reserve a make-up time. Make-ups are available when space permits. We do not prorate, refund or credit forward for classes unattended. HOLIDAYS Because there are months during the year which have five weeks and no additional charge is made, full tuition is expected during months which include a holiday. As a courtesy, when a class is missed due to a holiday, we invite you to take advantage of our make-up policy. WITHDRAWAL When a student enrolls, his/her place in class is reserved for the year. If the student wishes to withdraw for class, please notify the school so we can fill that place in class with someone on our waiting list.
Proper dancewear is required in all classes. A neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for students, teacher and the art of dance. Unnecessary jewelry will not be permitted. If students come to class in school clothes and street shoes, they will be asked to watch instead of participating in class. Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and neck for all styles of dance. Crocs are not dance shoes and therefore not allowed in dance classes. PLEASE REMIND YOUR DANCER TO ALWAYS DRESS CORRECTLY. Ballet: Black leotard and pink tights, pink ballet shoes with elastic sewn at the instep. Hair is to be worn up from the neck and away from the face in a neat ballet bun with a hairnet secured well enough to stay in place throughout the class. If a bra is showing, a black athletic sports bra is necessary. Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Latin & Lyrical: Any color of appropriate dancewear. No bare midriffs. A specific shoe color to compliment the costume will be required for the recital. You will receive this information in January when you order the costume. Dance pants must be short enough so the feet can be seen, but no short shorts. Predance & Combination: Any color of appropriate dancewear. (A specific shoe color will be required for the recital). Generally speaking, neatness and simplicity are the rule for dress in all dance classes. Nothing should be worn which will prevent the teacher from seeing the line of the dancer’s body. In all classes, hair needs to be secured away from the face
*Costume companies do not give refunds and charge a late fee for exchanges. *Dancers will wear the required dance shoe and tights for rehearsal and performances. *I give my permission for my dancer to participate in The Dance Academy performances June 6th and rehearsals June 3rd-5th at the Gallo Center for the Arts. I have read, understand, and will observe the information provided above and all future information provided regarding The Dance Academy's 2026 Gallo Production. *If ordering size XL there will be a $15 charge.
Because children can be easily distracted, we offer parent observation only during the last class of the month. By limiting the number of observation times, our teachers have more opportunities to focus the students’ attention on the lesson. Additionally, not all dancers feel comfortable learning new skills within view of an audience. We want our students to feel as comfortable as possible in their learning environment and therefore limit the number of observation sessions. Due to our end of the year performances, there will be no observation in May and June. During the non-observation weeks, you are invited to either drop off your child for class or wait in the reception area. At least one parent must remain at the studio for Predance classes. We do welcome your interest in your child’s dance education and want you to feel free to ask about their progress at any time. You are invited to record your child’s dance music and make notes for him/her to practice. If you would like to speak with the teacher, please leave a note at the front desk and you will be contacted as soon as possible. You may also email us through our website: www.thedanceacademymodesto.com. or email us directly at thedanceacademyne@outlook.com
The annual student recital will be presented at the end of the dance year. Out of respect for our dancers and their families, every effort is made to make this performance as professional as possible. Costumes must be ordered soon after the winter break to be assured of their arrival in time. We like to keep the cost of the costumes as reasonably priced as much as possible. Our payment to the costume company needs to be prepaid with the order, so the costume fee will need to be made to the studio no later than January 27th. The annual $25.00 backstage dancer supervision fee is also due at this time. If you assisted with supervising dancers at last year’s performance this fee is waived. Dress rehearsals and performances…….June 3rd-5th Gallo Center for the Arts Our students work very hard during the year developing their dance technique. The June production is an exciting and rewarding accumulation of a year of dedicated hard work. Achieving the best performance results requires an observance of certain responsibilities. Participation in the recital is optional. Below is some important information to consider before committing to participation in the performance. 1. Attendance – If participating, all class members are required to attend all performances in which the class will be dancing. Since the rehearsals are our only opportunity to rehearse on the stage, attendance is mandatory at the rehearsals. Excellent attendance in class is expected during the months of May and June. 2. Food – No food or drinks are allowed in the theatre or backstage area at any time. 3. Behavior – All dancers in attendance at rehearsal must remain quiet and attentive at all times. 4. Videos – Professional performance DVDs & USBs will be available for our families to purchase. Under no circumstances does Gallo Center for the Arts permit personal taping of performances. 5. Dance waiting areas – During the performances, volunteer parents and other dancer care personnel supervise the dancers. During all programs all dancers must remain in their waiting areas when not performing – including intermission. Cell phones and cameras are not allowed in the backstage/dressing room area. Dancers will not be allowed in the auditorium during the performance. After the finale, dancers can be picked up by a parent at the stage door where they checked in prior to the performance. Your child’s safety is our primary concern and we therefore need to know where they are at all times. Do not pick up your dancer prior to the end of the performance. Continuous dropping off and picking up of children creates too much confusion and provides for less adequate student care supervision. In addition, as a courtesy to dancers appearing on stage, we don’t want the audience to be constantly coming and going to retrieve children. The dancers performing near the end of the production have worked just as hard as those performing earlier in the show. Lack of observance of the above noted responsibilities will indicate to us that you are no longer interested in dancing with The Dance Academy and therefore you will not be enrolled in class for the following dance year. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping make this performance opportunity a positive experience for all of our students and their families
To insure the best opportunity for each student to receive the greatest dance education benefits, we expect all students enrolled in The Dance Academy to adhere to its rules and regulations and to behave throughout the school in a disciplined, responsible and courteous manner. Our students are expected to treat each other and the school faculty and staff with respect. Please arrive on time as every minute of each class is of value. It is also disruptive to the class when students arrive late. If the student is early, please be prepared to wait in the reception area and enter the classroom when invited by the teacher. Please visit the restroom before class. No food or drinks in the studio area. NO GUM ANYWHERE! Cell phones are not to be used during class and must remain in the dancer’s bag. Come to class in appropriate dance attire – including shoes. If you come to class in inappropriate clothing or street shoes, you will be asked to watch class instead of participating. Put on dance shoes inside our building. Do not wear your dance shoes outside. Be prepared to fully concentrate on the lesson during class time. Visit your friends before and after class, but not during. Practice during the week so you will come to class prepared to briefly review and then move on to learning something new. Do not compare yourself to others in class. However, watch carefully while your classmates are going across the floor or presenting a combination in the center. You will benefit from corrections given to them thereby improving your own technique. If you are not in class (for whatever reason) you are not learning. Good attendance habits are vital not only in improving dance technique and learning your recital dance, but also in preparing for promotion to the next level of your curriculum. If 3 classes in a row are missed or if the teacher feels your absences are otherwise excessive, you will not be allowed to perform that dance in the recital. If you feel you have unique circumstances, please discuss them in advance with your teacher. We’re happy to accommodate your requests when necessary. Offensive language and/or behavior will not be tolerated and is cause for dismissal from our school. As a courtesy to all in the lobby and for the safety of your child, children in the reception area should be supervised and never left unattended. Children under 5 using the restroom always need to be accompanied by a parent
