ATTENDANCE- is taken in every class. GREAT ATTENDANCE IS IMPERATIVE TO PROPER TRAINING. It is the student's responsibility to make up any missed classes or learn previously missed material from a classmate. Please notify the studio of a student's absence by calling or sending an email. Missed classes may be made up in another class of similar age and style before the month of March. If a student is absent more than 5 classes during the months of March through May they may not participate in the annual Recital.
*Please stay home if you are ill.
PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS (PAA) are given out at the annual Recital. To be eligible for the award a student must have perfect attendance in ALL the classes in which they are registered. ARRIVING LATE, LEAVING EARLY AND MORE THAN ONE MADE UP CLASS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS PERFECT ATTENDANCE. Only one day of classes may be made up to be considered for Perfect Attendance. The student receives one month's tuition to use towards next year's classes. PAAs are non transferable. PAAs expire one year from the date on the certificate. PAA amounts will be applied to the September tuition only.
SNOW/BAD WEATHER & EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS-If Taunton Public Schools are cancelled due to inclement weather the Studio will also be closed. Cancellations are posted on the studio Facebook page,Instagram, and on the outgoing message on the studio phone. For weekend classes please check these sites after 8:30am. Students may make up cancelled classes in another scheduled class. We do not reschedule cancelled classes.
PLACEMENT-The criteria we follow to place a student in a certain group is based not only on age but on technical, physical & cognitive readiness; performance skills and seriousness towards dance. All age groups are designed for students to remain in that level for 2-4 years. Students remaining in the same age group will continue to improve on their technique on previously learned material while learning new material/skills. BALLET is required for students up to level 3 and age 10. Ballet is the foundation of ALL dance. It builds musculature that is both strong and flexible; increase range of motion in the joints; fosters balance and good posture; terminology from ballet is used in most other classes. Exception: students registered solely in Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Irish Step, or Musical Theater.
PARTICIPATION- CLASSROOM: Students are expected to follow the rules of the classroom. If at any time a student is being uncooperative or disruptive; either to the teacher or classmates; he or she will be spoken to once. If cooperation is not immediately shown; the student will be asked to leave the room. Upon returning to the classroom the following week, the student is expected to listen and follow along with the rest of the class. If the student continues to be uncooperative and/or disrespectful he or she will be asked to leave the studio.
*I understand the art and nature of dance instruction may sometimes require a teacher to physically touch my child. **I understand that this will happen in a gentle, caring and appropriate manner.
RECITAL: All students will participate in the Recital. We have 3-4 performances. Which performance the student participates in will be posted by January. Attendance at all rehearsals are mandatory if the student wishes to participate in the Recital. One absence will be allowed due to illness or school function that is graded. If a dancer chooses not to partake in the annual recital, the office must be notified before costumes are ordered in November. Dancers of all ages are to stay backstage with SDS faculty, staff, and volunteers for the duration of the show. Dancers will not be dismissed until after finale. This is to ensure safety of all of our dancers at all times in a public building (the theater). *I understand that, in order to keep the backstage area orderly and safe for all children, my child will be the responsibility of SDS faculty, staff, and volunteers for the duration of recital (from check in to release). After finale, my child will be released directly to me or a guardian that I have approved.**
WITHDRAWAL: Notification of withdrawal from class/school (studio phone 508-880-5079 or email sdstaunton@gmail.com) must be received by the last day of the month (BEFORE THE 1ST DAY OF A NEW MONTH); or you will be responsible for next month's tuition as your space has been reserved.
