Policies and Procedures:
Class Requirements Policy: Dance requires consistent ongoing training, and students who excessively miss classes will not be able to perform at the same level as those who have attended all classes regularly. Personal accountability is essential for a successful season, and commitment to your classmates is a vital component of this success. In a case of excessive absences we will call a meeting with the dancer and the parent/guardian to discuss options which may include but not be limited to the following: private lessons at the dancer’s expense to get caught up, ineligible to participate in the production, removal from the dance, or revoking of special parts. Dancers may not miss any classes 2 weeks prior to a performance. Failure to attend rehearsal during this time will result in the removal of the dancer from their dances. We understand there can be extenuating circumstances and if something arises that cannot be avoided, we ask that you discuss this with the director ASAP. If you must miss a planned rehearsal or classes, your request/inform must be in writing and submitted to the office/teacher/director as a matter of record. Please do not rely on other students to pass along your absence. The important dates are provided at the beginning of the season for pre-planning purposes and all students are required to prioritize their attendance at dress rehearsals and photo shoots for production.
Studio Behavior Policy:
The staff of the Garden Arts Center staff are not responsible to supervise students roaming around the space outside of their scheduled class times. A parent or guardian should be present in the studio to care for any children under the age of 12 if they have a scheduled break between classes. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure their student is dropped off and picked up on time. In case of an unavoidable delay please contact the studio. Families who are consistently late or who leave their children unattended in the studio will be charged a service fee of $20 per 30 minute period.
Withdrawal Policy:
The Garden Arts Center and its collectives require a 30 day advance written notice of withdrawal of a student.
Class Scheduling and Cancellation Policy:
The Garden Arts Center and its collectives reserve the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Any enrolled families will be contacted to discuss options/alternatives. After leveling all students at the beginning of the season, the class schedule and student enrollment are subject to change to accommodate the leveling needs of the students.
Although the Garden Arts Center and its collectives has specific staff assigned to teach designated classes, a substitute instructor designated by the director may be used at any time. Please understand many of our instructors are also professional dancers who may book tours or other performances and may need alternative coverage for their classes, both short and long term.
Class Placement Policy:
Students will be continuously evaluated for appropriate level placement in their classes by the director with the input of their instructors. The decision on leveling is intended to place your student in a class where they can be successful in balancing learning technique and choreography with proficiency. It should not be expected that students change levels each year and placement may also change within the season. Please understand misleveling a student puts them at a significant disadvantage and often leads them to be frustrated and may affect their attitude towards dance negatively. The level itself is not what is important but the growth in their technique, skills, and performance quality as a dancer. It is highly encouraged to keep an open line of communication with the director about your student’s placement, goals, and to check in periodically on their progress.
Code of Conduct Policy:
Members of the Garden Arts Center and its collectives are to be looked at as supportive and caring for all. We are not to judge and harbor hatred for anyone. We expect all students and parents to be supportive, respectful, and courteous to all our members, their families and other studios/facilities at all times. There will be no tolerance for rudeness, jealousy, resentment, or disrespect to another student, their family, a teacher, nor the director.
Conflict of Interest (Multiple Studio Policy):
Any student enrolled in the Garden Arts Center or its collectives shall not have any contractual agreements and enrollments with multiple studios. Every studio trains differently and the student is the priority and should not be placed in a position to choose between performances or miss classes due to conflicts of scheduling, cost, confusion with training style etc. Taking Master classes, workshops, or alternative classes/styles that are not offered at the Garden Arts Center elsewhere may be acceptable, WITH PERMISSION, as long as students are not performing, competing or representing another studio, and they are meeting all of their class requirements at The Garden Arts Center. Please request clearance for any other classes taken with the director. If the Garden Arts Center finds a student in violation of this policy, they will be dismissed from the studio effective immediately with no refunds for any tuition, registration fees, production fees etc..
