2026–2027 Dance Year and Summer 2026 Studio & Tuition Policies
Please read the following policies carefully. By registering for classes, camps, events, or programs at Backstage Dance Studio, you acknowledge and agree to follow all studio policies, tuition policies, waiver/release terms, and program requirements for the applicable season or session.
These policies apply to all enrolled students, parents/guardians, and participating adults for the 2026–2027 Dance Year and Summer 2026.
Backstage Dance Studio operates in Columbia, Maryland. This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Maryland.
Please note: Backstage Dance Studio offers both recreational classes and Show Troupe/competitive programming. General studio policies apply to all dancers. Recreational dancers follow the recreational withdrawal, tuition, and studio policies listed below. Show Troupe/competitive dancers must also follow the separate Show Troupe Contract, which controls team-specific requirements, fees, attendance, withdrawal, competitions, and financial obligations.
Fall 2026–2027 Studio & Tuition Policies
Fall 2026–2027 Tuition Payments
Tuition payments, including the registration fee, are due at the time of registration. Monthly tuition payments are due by the 1st of each month, September 2026 through May 2027.
All accounts must have a valid payment method on file and must be enrolled in AutoPay. AutoPay will process the full account balance on the 1st of each month.
Families paying by cash or check must submit payment at the front desk before the 1st of the month to avoid AutoPay processing. Please make checks payable to Backstage Dance Studio LLC.
Card payments are subject to a 3% processing fee. ACH payments are subject to a 1% processing fee.
A 10% late fee will be applied to any outstanding balance after the 5th of the month. If payment remains unpaid, students may be temporarily removed from class until the account is brought current.
Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable once a class is attended. A $30 returned check fee will be assessed for any returned checks, and the balance must be settled by credit card, ACH, cash, or another approved payment method.
Fall 2026–2027 Tuition Rates & Multi-Class Discounts
Tuition is billed monthly from September 2026 through May 2027.
Standard monthly tuition rates:
Classes 1–4: $95 per class/month
Classes 5–8: $85 per class/month
Class 9: $75/month
10+ classes: Unlimited cap rate of $800/month
Standard multi-class discounts are automatically applied to eligible classes.
For the standard multi-class discount, eligible recreational classes and Show Troupe tuition-based classes may be counted together on the same dancer/account for tuition discount purposes, unless otherwise stated by Backstage Dance Studio.
The unlimited cap rate allows a dancer to take any eligible class within their appropriate age range and level, subject to availability, placement, and studio approval.
The unlimited cap does not apply to private lessons, semi-private lessons, camps, pop-up classes, master classes, competition fees, choreography fees, costume fees, registration fees, recital fees, adult classes, or special programs unless specifically approved in writing by Backstage Dance Studio.
Discounts cannot be applied retroactively unless approved by Backstage Dance Studio. Discounts may not be combined unless specifically stated by Backstage Dance Studio.
Early Bird Recreational Class Special
Families who register by August 1, 2026 may qualify for the Early Bird Recreational Class Special for September 2026 tuition.
To qualify, dancers must be enrolled in 2 or more recreational classes by August 1, 2026.
The dancer’s first recreational class will be billed at the regular rate of $95. Each additional recreational class will receive 50% off for September 2026 only, up to 6 total classes.
This discount will be automatically applied at registration.
Beginning October 1, 2026, tuition will return to the standard multi-class monthly rate for the remainder of the season.
This promotional offer applies to 2026–2027 recreational fall season classes only. It does not apply to Show Troupe/competition team classes, registration fees, costume fees, recital fees, camps, private lessons, adult classes, previous balances, or special programs.
Promotional discounts may not be combined with other discounts unless specifically stated by Backstage Dance Studio.
Promotional Offers & Special Pricing
Promotional offers, discounts, and special pricing are valid only during the stated promotional period. Promotions may not be applied retroactively and may not be combined with other discounts unless specifically stated by Backstage Dance Studio.
All promotional offers are subject to eligibility requirements, deadlines, and program restrictions listed in the promotion.
Fall 2026–2027 Registration Fee
A non-refundable registration fee of $55 per student is due at the time of registration, with an additional $25 registration fee per sibling within the same family.
This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not redeemable for cash.
Fall 2026–2027 Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for individual progress and group success. Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes.
If a student misses more than 10% of their classes, they may be excluded from participating in the year-end recital.
Attendance is especially important in March and April as recital preparations intensify.
Show Troupe dancers should refer to their separate Show Troupe Contract for specific attendance requirements.
Fall 2026–2027 Absences & Make-Up Classes
If a student will be absent, please notify the studio by email at backstagedancestudio@gmail.com.
Absences may be made up within one month when an appropriate make-up class is available. Make-up classes are not guaranteed and must be approved by the studio.
Refunds are not offered for missed classes.
Show Troupe dancers should refer to their Show Troupe Contract for their specific absence and attendance policies.
Recreational Class Withdrawal & Refunds
Recreational students may withdraw from recreational classes without penalty until November 1, 2026.
Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing by email to backstagedancestudio@gmail.com.
After November 1, 2026, families are financially responsible for the remaining season tuition and fees, regardless of attendance, unless otherwise approved in writing by Backstage Dance Studio.
Once a class is attended in any given month, tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable. Registration fees are non-refundable.
Refunds, when applicable, will be issued as studio credit. Studio credit is not redeemable for cash, is non-transferable, and expires on December 31 of the calendar year in which it was issued.
Fall 2026–2027 Account Credits
Account credits issued by Backstage Dance Studio may be used only as approved by the studio. Credits are non-refundable, non-transferable, and not redeemable for cash.
Credits expire on December 31 of the calendar year in which they are granted.
The studio reserves the right to determine how and when credits may be applied. Credits may not be used toward fees, costumes, merchandise, competitions, private lessons, or special events unless approved by Backstage Dance Studio.
Fall 2026–2027 Recital Costumes
The cost for each recreational class costume is $95 per class.
Combo class costumes, such as Petite Ballet/Tap or Ballet/Jazz, are $125 per combo class.
Costume fees are due by November 1, 2026, when costumes are ordered. No costumes will be ordered if payment is not received by the due date.
Costumes are non-refundable once ordered. Backstage Dance Studio is not responsible for costume alterations. Alterations are the responsibility of the dancer or family.
Show Troupe dancers should refer to their Show Troupe Contract for costume pricing and due dates.
Fall 2026–2027 Recital Fee
A recital fee of $75 per student or $100 per family includes two recital tickets and dress rehearsal participation.
A complimentary digital download of the recital will be provided to all families by August 1, 2027.
The recital fee is due by November 1, 2026. Recital fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
No recital tickets will be issued if there is an outstanding account balance as of May 1, 2027.
Additional recital tickets will be available for purchase in April on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recital participation is optional, but recital-related fees are non-refundable once charged or paid.
Fall 2026–2027 Minimum Enrollment
A minimum of six students per class is required for the class to proceed.
If this minimum is not met, the class may be canceled, combined, or adjusted. Families will be notified by email if any changes occur.
Students may withdraw with a full refund if the withdrawal request is submitted in writing within 7 days of being notified of a class change.
Fall 2026–2027 Class Etiquette & Dress Code
Students must arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to dance.
Students must have the correct shoes and attire by the second week of class. Students who do not follow the dress code may not be permitted to participate in class for safety reasons.
Students are expected to behave respectfully at all times. Severe misconduct, bullying, harassment, disruptive behavior, or inappropriate social media behavior may result in immediate dismissal from the studio with no refunds.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to remove a dancer from the program due to inappropriate behavior by the dancer, parent/guardian, family member, or guest. In the event of removal, recreational families remain financially responsible for the full season tuition and fees as outlined in these policies. Show Troupe families remain financially responsible for all tuition, fees, and charges outlined in the Show Troupe Contract.
Dress Code
Students are expected to arrive to class dressed appropriately and ready to dance. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face for all classes. Ballet students should wear hair in a bun when possible.
All dancers should have the proper shoes and attire by the second week of class.
Ballet: Leotard in any color, black preferred. Pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Dress code may be modified as needed for male dancers.
Jazz: Leotard or fitted dance top with dance shorts, leggings, or fitted athletic bottoms. Any color is permitted, black preferred. Skin-tone tights and black jazz shoes.
Tap: Athletic wear or dance attire in any color. Tap shoes required.
Hip Hop: Athletic streetwear, such as a t-shirt, tank top, shorts, sweatpants, joggers, or leggings. Clean sneakers required.
Lyrical/Contemporary: Leotard, fitted dance top, shorts, leggings, or other fitted athletic/dance wear in any color. Turner shoes are preferred, but ballet shoes are acceptable.
Musical Theater: Athletic wear or dance attire. Turner shoes or jazz shoes required.
Acro/Conditioning: Fitted athletic wear or dance attire. Bare feet unless otherwise instructed. Hair must be secured away from the face.
Show Troupe/Competitive Dancers: Show Troupe dancers should refer to their Show Troupe Contract and team-specific dress code requirements. Show Troupe dress code requirements may be more specific and will take priority over the general recreational dress code.
Parent/Guardian Conduct
Parents, guardians, family members, and guests are expected to communicate respectfully with staff, dancers, and other families.
Harassment, threats, aggressive behavior, disruptive conduct, inappropriate social media behavior, gossip, or behavior that negatively impacts the studio environment will not be tolerated.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to remove any student, parent/guardian, family member, or guest from the premises or program if their conduct is deemed unsafe, disruptive, inappropriate, or harmful to the studio community.
If a dancer is removed from the recreational program due to inappropriate behavior by the dancer, parent/guardian, family member, or guest, the family remains financially responsible for the full season tuition and fees as outlined in these policies. Show Troupe families remain financially responsible for all tuition, fees, and charges outlined in the Show Troupe Contract.
Parent, Lobby & Viewing Area Etiquette
Backstage Dance Studio is proud to offer a lobby and viewing area for families. All parents, guardians, family members, and guests are expected to be respectful, positive, and supportive while in the studio.
We expect all lobby conversations and behavior to reflect the values of Backstage Dance Studio. Gossip, negativity, inappropriate language, disruptive behavior, harassment, intimidation, or conduct that creates an uncomfortable environment for dancers, families, staff, or guests will not be tolerated.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to ask any parent, guardian, family member, or guest to leave the lobby or studio premises if their behavior is disruptive, inappropriate, or not aligned with studio expectations.
Our viewing screens are provided as a courtesy to families. Camera views may rotate, and not all classes or dancers may be visible at all times. Viewing access may occasionally be limited, paused, or turned off at the discretion of Backstage Dance Studio.
Families should not rely on the viewing screen as a guaranteed service. The viewing system is intended to provide occasional observation while maintaining a positive, focused, and respectful class environment for our dancers and teachers.
Illness Policy
Students should not attend class if they have a fever, vomiting, contagious illness, or symptoms that may put others at risk. Students should be fever and symptom free for 24 hours before returning to dance.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to send a student home if they appear ill or unable to safely participate.
Missed classes due to illness may be made up by taking another class of the same age and style and approved by the studio.
Personal Belongings
Backstage Dance Studio is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.
Students should label all items and avoid bringing valuables to the studio.
Fall 2026–2027 Visiting Days
Parents/guardians are invited to attend designated Visiting Days, held twice per year, to observe their dancer’s progress.
On Visiting Days, parents will be invited into the dance room for the last 10 minutes of class to watch the recital dance performed.
Dates and times will be provided by email. Visitors are not permitted in the classroom except on designated Visiting Days.
Fall 2026–2027 Communication
Studio updates and important announcements are communicated by email and occasionally by text message.
It is the family’s responsibility to keep contact information updated in the studio system.

Studio App & Digital Communication Tools
Backstage Dance Studio offers a free studio app through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We strongly recommend that families download the app and link it to their DanceStudio-Pro account for easier access to schedules, account information, payments, studio updates, and other helpful features.
App instructions can be found on our website.
Backstage Dance Studio may also use app features to share class videos, practice videos, announcements, or other helpful content with dancers and families when appropriate. Videos may be posted at the teacher’s discretion and are intended as an additional training/support tool.
Videos are not guaranteed for every class, routine, or week, and they may not be posted on a set schedule. Teachers may choose to post videos when they feel it is necessary or helpful for the class.
Families understand that the app and video-sharing features are supplemental tools and do not replace in-class instruction, attendance, or direct communication from the studio.
Fall 2026–2027 Inclement Weather & Studio Closures
In the event of studio closures due to inclement weather, emergencies, power outages, or circumstances beyond the studio’s control, a message will be sent by email and text no later than 2 hours before class begins when possible.
Backstage Dance Studio does not follow Howard County school closings.
If you feel it is unsafe to travel to class, please prioritize safety and notify the studio by email.
Studio closures due to weather, emergencies, power outages, or circumstances beyond the studio’s control are not eligible for refunds. When possible, the studio may offer an alternate class, make-up opportunity, or virtual option at its discretion.
Fall 2026–2027 Early Drop-Off & Late Pick-Up
Students should not be dropped off earlier than 15 minutes before class and must be picked up within 15 minutes after class ends.
A fee of $20 for every 15-minute interval, or portion thereof, will be charged for early drop-off or late pick-up.
This policy does not apply to students waiting for siblings enrolled in back-to-back classes.
If there are special circumstances regarding pick-up, please notify the studio by email at backstagedancestudio@gmail.com.
Fall 2026–2027 Siblings
For safety and liability reasons, individuals under the age of 18 who are not enrolled in a class may not remain unsupervised in the studio.
Parents or guardians must remain in the studio with non-enrolled siblings or children.
Fall 2026–2027 Photo & Video Consent
By enrolling, families grant permission for Backstage Dance Studio to photograph and record students for promotional, marketing, social media, website, and studio use.
Families who do not want their dancer photographed or recorded for promotional use must submit an opt-out request in writing to backstagedancestudio@gmail.com before the student’s first class.
The studio will make reasonable efforts to honor opt-out requests. Families understand that students may appear incidentally in large group, public event, audience, or recital footage.
Video & Audio Recording Notice
For security, safety, and training purposes, Backstage Dance Studio uses video surveillance in studio rooms, lobby areas, and common areas.
Audio recording may also occur where permitted by law. By entering the premises and participating in studio activities, families acknowledge and consent to posted recording notices.
Recording is not used in restrooms, dressing areas, or other private areas.
Because Maryland has strict consent rules for certain audio recordings, Backstage Dance Studio may limit or disable audio recording where appropriate. Families, students, and guests are not permitted to record audio or video inside classrooms without studio permission.
Pop-Up Classes, Master Classes, Camps & Special Events
Payment for pop-up classes, master classes, camps, and special events is due at the time of registration.
These events are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Medical Emergency Authorization
In the event of illness, injury, or emergency, the parent/guardian authorizes Backstage Dance Studio staff to obtain emergency medical assistance if necessary.
The parent/guardian remains responsible for all medical costs. If your dancer has a medical condition, takes mediation or has needs we should be aware of please add the information to your dancers DSP portal.
Waiver, Assumption of Risk & Release of Claims
By enrolling in Backstage Dance Studio, the parent/guardian and student acknowledge that dance, acro, conditioning, fitness, rehearsals, performances, and related activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to slips, falls, muscle strains, sprains, collisions, and other injuries.
The parent/guardian accepts these risks and agrees that the student is participating voluntarily.
The parent/guardian agrees to release and hold harmless Backstage Dance Studio, its owners, employees, instructors, directors, volunteers, agents, and affiliates to the fullest extent permitted by Maryland law.
Backstage Dance Studio is not responsible for injuries or incidents that occur while traveling to or from classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions, events, or while on studio property, except as otherwise provided by applicable law.
Attorney Fees
In the event of any legal action related to the enforcement of these policies or an alleged dispute, breach, or default, the prevailing party shall be entitled to recover reasonable attorney’s fees and other costs incurred in connection with the action or proceeding, in addition to any other relief awarded.
Show Troupe / Competitive Dancers
Show Troupe and competitive dancers are required to sign and follow the separate Show Troupe Contract in addition to these general studio policies.
Once the Show Troupe Contract has been submitted, a Show Troupe dancer may only withdraw from the program by providing written notice to Backstage Dance Studio. Withdrawal does not release the family from financial responsibility.
Families remain responsible for full payment of the entire season, including all associated tuition, choreography fees, competition fees, costume fees, convention fees, rehearsal fees, and any other charges outlined in the Show Troupe Agreement.
If there is a conflict between these general studio policies and the Show Troupe Contract, the Show Troupe Contract will control for team-specific requirements and financial obligations, including attendance, rehearsals, choreography, competitions, costumes, competition fees, and team participation requirements, unless otherwise stated in writing by Backstage Dance Studio.
Show Troupe dancers who do not follow studio policies and Show Troupe requirements may be removed from the team with no refunds and may remain financially responsible for the remainder of the season tuition, competition fees, choreography fees, costume fees, and other applicable charges as stated in the Show Troupe Contract.
Recreational Dancers
Recreational dancers and families must agree to and follow all applicable studio policies.
Failure to follow studio policies may result in removal from class or dismissal from the studio with no refunds.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to remove a recreational dancer from the program due to inappropriate behavior by the dancer, parent/guardian, family member, or guest. In the event of removal, the family remains financially responsible for the full season tuition and fees as outlined in these policies.

Before Care is available from 8:00 AM for a flat rate of $25.
After Care is available until 4:00 PM for a flat rate of $25.
To reserve before care or after care, please email the studio with requested dates at least 48 hours prior to the day care is needed.
Summer camps must be paid in full at the time of registration. No refunds will be issued for summer camps.
Summer 2026 Pop-Up Classes
Pop-up classes are $30 per class.
Students must be registered and paid in full online prior to attending class. Cash payments are not accepted for pop-up classes.
No refunds will be issued for pop-up classes or master classes.
Summer 2026 Registration Fee
A non-refundable registration fee of $25 per student is due at the time of registration.
This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not redeemable for cash.
Summer 2026 Attendance & Absences
We understand that families may travel during the summer. If your child needs to miss a class, we will offer a make-up class when an appropriate class is available and approved by the studio.
If your child will be absent, please notify the studio by email at backstagedancestudio@gmail.com.
Absences may be made up within one month when available. Refunds will not be issued for missed classes.
Summer 2026 Class Withdrawal & Refunds
Dancers may withdraw from Summer 2026 recreational classes without penalty if written notification is received before the 1st of the month in which withdrawal is requested.

Summer 2026 Credits

All Summer 2026 credits expire on August 31, 2026.

Summer 2026 Waiver, Assumption of Risk & Release of Claims
By enrolling in Backstage Dance Studio, the parent/guardian and student acknowledge that dance, acro, conditioning, fitness, rehearsals, performances, and related activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to slips, falls, muscle strains, sprains, collisions, and other injuries.
The parent/guardian accepts these risks and agrees that the student is participating voluntarily.
The parent/guardian agrees to release and hold harmless Backstage Dance Studio, its owners, employees, instructors, directors, volunteers, agents, and affiliates to the fullest extent permitted by Maryland law.
Backstage Dance Studio is not responsible for injuries or incidents that occur while traveling to or from classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions, events, or while on studio property, except as otherwise provided by applicable law.
Summer 2026 Attorney Fees
In the event of any legal action related to the enforcement of these policies or an alleged dispute, breach, or default, the prevailing party shall be entitled to recover reasonable attorney’s fees and other costs incurred in connection with the action or proceeding, in addition to any other relief awarded.
Summer 2026 Show Troupe / Competitive Dancers
Show Troupe and competitive dancers must follow these studio policies in addition to the separate Show Troupe Contract.
If there is a conflict between these general studio policies and the Show Troupe Contract, the Show Troupe Contract will control for team-specific requirements unless otherwise stated in writing by Backstage Dance Studio.
Summer 2026 Recreational Dancers
Recreational dancers and families must agree to and follow all applicable studio policies.
Failure to follow studio policies may result in removal from class or dismissal from the studio with no refunds.
Backstage Dance Studio reserves the right to remove a recreational dancer from the summer program due to inappropriate behavior by the dancer, parent/guardian, family member, or guest. In the event of removal, the family remains financially responsible for the full summer session tuition and fees as outlined in these policies.
Agreement Acknowledgment
By signing below or completing registration, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the Backstage Dance Studio 2026–2027 Dance Year and Summer 2026 Studio & Tuition Policies.
I understand that failure by the dancer, parent/guardian, family member, or guest to follow these policies may result in removal from class, team, events, or the studio without refund.
I understand that recreational families may remain financially responsible for the full season tuition and fees as outlined in these policies, and Show Troupe/competitive families may remain financially responsible for all tuition, fees, and charges outlined in the Show Troupe Contract.
