Student Contract
Being Prepared for Rehearsal:
I agree to be in our assigned rehearsal space and ready to begin rehearsal on time. Being prepared means that you are in the rehearsal room, with your script and pencil and water bottle placed ready for you when you need it and you are waiting for warmups to begin.
Being ready for rehearsal means being in rehearsal appropriate clothing. Proper rehearsal attire --comfortable and which allows the actor to move with complete freedom and without restriction.
Examples of such attire include sweats, athletic shorts, leotards, tights, and t-shirts, tennis shoes, ballet, character, and or Jazz Shoes.
I agree to meet "off book" deadlines by having my lines, songs and choreography memorized.
Being a Considerate and Kind Cast Member:
I agree to assist with the production of the show in any capacity. I understand that putting on a great Mosaic show is a group effort and I will be there to support my fellow castmates throughout the entire production.
As part of being in a group effect, I understand that my mood and attitude affect everyone present at rehearsal. So, I will have a positive attitude, even on days when I have a million reasons to not be open-minded and willing to work.
Sometimes there are things that are stopping you from being an open minded and available cast mate. Your Mosaic directors are here to support you so if something is bothering you please tell your director at the start of class so they can help you have the best rehearsal possible.
I understand this show requires collaboration, and I agree to contribute my ideas and energy at appropriate times.
I agree to do all that I can to make rehearsals the best they can be.
If during runs of the show you are asked to remain quiet until your entrance we ask for your full cooperation.
Disrupting rehearsal is not acceptable at any time.
Talking or making any unnecessary noise hinders your fellow cast members ability to work and slows down the rehearsal process for your show. By staying quiet while you are not in a scene shows great respect to your fellow cast mates.
This rule does not apply if you are in pain, worried or concerned about anything. Your safety comes first.
Professional Policies:
I understand the Director will make final choices pertaining to my role(s).
Audition Prep is a part of all of our rehearsal schedules to equally support and prepare all actors at Mosaic. This is a great opportunity to discuss all casting thoughts and procedures with your director.
If casting does not end in the results you were hoping for, you are encouraged to discuss why your director has decided the role you were assigned is the best place for you in rehearsal.
Ensemble work is crucial to the productivity of the rehearsal process and crucial to Mosaic. To that end the actor should endeavor to:
Maintain an environment where everyone feels free to explore, experiment, and take risks without fear of failure or ridicule. Support and, where possible, assist fellow actors in their efforts.
The actor should endeavor to keep an open mind and foster a willing attitude that allows for experimentation and exploration of the text and performance. Actors are subsequently expected to communicate when they don't understand something or are having difficulty making an interpretation work.
Any actor who's attitude within the rehearsal process is significantly disruptive to the progress or morale of the acting company will be dismissed from the scene.
The actor's discipline is to remain involved and engaged in rehearsal at all times even when not actively working. This includes when they are in rehearsal but not on stage. Learn by watching.
The director, stage manager or technical director are the only people who should stop the 'action' in rehearsal. Actors should continue performing in spite of mistakes, missed lines, blocking, or side coaching until instructed to hold, freeze, etc.
Each actor is responsible for maintaining his or her script.
Each actor is expected to keep notes and blocking in their script
Each actor is expected to have their script at every rehearsal, even when off book.
Actor’s cell phones are not permitted in the rehearsal room or theater under any circumstances.
Actors can keep all personal items in the lobby cubbies.
Your director will make accommodations to secure actor’s cell phones at the actor’s request.
An actor is never to handle, use, or play with the props or costumes of another actor.
Disrespect will not be tolerated! Students will not show disrespect for the director or their classmates/cast mates.
I __________________ understand that I am a valued member of the Mosaic’s Young Actors’ Company. Part of being a valued member of Mosaic means that I will abide by all of these rules in order to assist my fellow Mosaic cast members. Being in Mosaic will be the most fun if all members of Mosaic respect each other and the process. I ___________________ will do my best to make sure this is possible.
