WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM TDA
TDA is a professional and well managed dance studio. We pride ourselves on our personal yet professional relationship with all of the families we work with. Our aim is to provide a place where children and teenagers can study performing arts in an environment where everyone feels valued. We believe that every student is as important as the next student, and every person enrolled in every class deserves the same respect and attention from their teachers. We aim to give every child a positive memory of their year/s at the studio while at the same time, teaching them life lessons in good time management, respect and discipline. For those students who are interested in a career in the performing arts, we can direct and guide them into avenues that will aid them in finding an agent and gaining work in the entertainment industry.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF TDA PARENTS
It is very important that we have families who work with us to create a positive learning environment for children, and a friendly, organised place for parents. We trust that parents who choose to enrol their children at TDA will respect the policies of the studio, and encourage their children to do the same. If parents have concerns about anything to do with their childs placement, progress or any other aspect of their involvement at TDA, we encourage you to contact the office and arrange a meeting to discuss it. TDA values feedback from parents and encourages discussions as long as they are held respectfully and at an appropriate time. We require parents to stay up to date on payment of fees, so that we can continue to run a successful studio and provide a great service to you.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF TDA STUDENTS
It is expected that students will respect their teachers and their peers at all times, both inside the dance studio and while in the waiting areas. Students should take pride in the way they look at all times by dressing in the appropriate clothing for each class and by having their hair in a neat style that does not become untidy and distracting to the student. Students should always make sure that they are prepared for their lessons by ensuring that they have all of the correct shoes and equipment as required by their teacher and by revising the work covered in each weeks class before the next lesson. If a student accidentally finds that they are late, have incorrect clothes or shoes, is absent from a class, or any other type of mismanagement - it is considered good manners to apologise to their teacher.
MEDICAL
It is the student/parent responsibility to notify their teacher of any injury/medical condition during or prior to class which is being treated that may be of concern during class. If the parent or emergency contact person cannot be contacted TDA will seek relevant medical support for the student and the parent will be fully liable for any costs incurred.
NEWSLETTERS
All newsletters will be emailed, available through our studio management programme, website and hard copies will be available for collection from the office. On enrolment, you will be asked to provide us with a current email address. If you cannot provide us with an email address, it is your responsibility to check the noticeboard in the studio to read the newsletters. We can send newsletters to multiple addresses for one family, so if you would like to add another email address to our mailing list, you may register it upon enrolment. All senior students should also register their personal email address in addition to their family email so they can stay up to date on events and schedules.
CODE OF CONDUCT
A high standard if behaviour is expected at all times.
- Students to be polite at all times to all teachers and students.
- Students must bring all required uniform and material (including scripts).
- Students must be committed to learning rehearsal material (e.g. choreography, lines, song words) by the prescribed dates.
- Absences must be explained by an apology in advance if possible. Apologies may be entered into the studio management programme or texted through to the Manager's mobile phone.
- Violence, either verbal or physical, is completely banned. At TDA Performing Arts we expect students to value and respect their peers and teachers. Bad behaviour will not be tolerated by any teacher or member of staff.
- Students must respect all studios at all times. Students must not touch or interfere with any property. This also applies to all family members.
- Attendance at performances should be sacrosanct. In the best Show Business tradition, The Show Must Go On at all costs.
DISCIPLINE POLICY
At TDA Performing Arts we expect students to value and respect their peers and teachers. Bad behaviour will not be tolerated by any teacher or member of staff. In the event of student misbehaviour, or breaches of any of the clauses in the Code of Conduct, TDA will implement a three step process designed to solve the problem in consultation with the student, parent or guardian and teachers. The emphasis in the process is to solve the problem by giving all parties the opportunity to discuss and understand the problem and to reach a solution. Improved behaviour with the organisation is always based on the notion of self respect, which of course means that behaviour improves elsewhere, including both home and school.
- 1 informal warning, recorded by teachers with the Manager. Student Discipline policy is discussed with the student.
- 1st formal warning, student is placed on notice and parents are advised.
- 2nd formal warning. Parents/Guardians are notified, and invited to a meeting with the teacher and student.
- 3rd formal warning. Student is dismissed from the organisation. Warnings are wiped clean at the end of each term, so that students may start with a clean slate.
PLEASE NOTE: Membership in TDA courses is at the discretion of Directors. If a student is deemed unsuitable, the offer of a place will be withdrawn and the student's membership terminated. No correspondence will be entered into.
GROOMING
Watches and bulky jewellery are prohibited in all classes as injuries can occur with these items. Neat grooming and correct attire is vital so that the student can have unrestricted movement, and so that the teacher can see the students body to correct their line. Hairstyles should always be neat and off the face. Time spent on grooming before class helps the student feel more composed in class, and therefore they are able to concentrate on the work instead of being distracted by their clothing or hair.
UNIFORMS
All female students must wear a leotard for all classes - crop top and shorts will be accepted only for jazz and tap classes. Fitted shorts can be added for jazz, tap, contemporary and acrobatic classes. Baggy pants can be added for hip hop classes. Ballet tights and short ballet skirt MUST BE worn for all ballet classes - this is a modesty issue for developing bodies. Shorts may be worn by senior ballet students with permission of their teacher. Ballet socks are acceptable for younger ballet students.
Female students must wear hair in a pony tail for jazz, tap, hip hop and acrobatic classes. Hair must be in a bun for extension, ballet and contemporary classes. Head band to be worn for short hair to keep it off the face
Male students must wear a fitted t shirt and fitted shorts/leggings for jazz, tap, acrobatic, ballet and contemporary classes. Baggy pants can be worn for hip hop classes. Hair is to be worn in a neat style off the face.
As all students have similar clothing, please make sure that your childs name is clearly written on every garment and on the inside of their dance shoes, so items can be returned if misplaced.
Students not in correct class attire or footwear will be asked to sit out classes and take notes. There will be a 2-week grace period at the commencement of Term 1 2025 to enable families to arrange appropriate uniform requirements.
DO NOT buy any shoes with more than 6 months growing room as your child will not be able to dance properly. If you go to a small local store or online please be careful because they may tend to sell you the shoes they have in stock and not the shoes that properly fit your child.
If you are buying new shoes: Tap shoes - please check with teachers what type and size of heel your child should use. All jazz shoes should be jazz bootie style (no laces) unless otherwise advised by Miss Vicki or Miss Jessie.
Students who are starting on Pointe this year MUST undergo a pre-pointe assessment with a studio approved physio to ensure that they are at a sufficient level for this style. Consultation must be made with teachers as to where pointe shoes are to be purchased and style to be used.
DANCEWEAR
Dance shoes, dancewear and accessories are available for purchase from the office of TDA Performing Arts.
2nd Hand Shoes are no longer sold through the TDA office. Parents are still encouraged to sell shoes and may feel free to advertise style, size and colour of shoe on the Studio Notice Boards or in the Facebook group.
There are many good Facebook sites where you can advertise, buy and sell dancewear at a reasonable price. Please feel free to become a member of these sites and regularly check to see what is available.
DROP OFF, PICK UP AND PARKING
TDA cannot take responsibility for students before or after their scheduled classes. It is up to the parents and guardians to make sure the students arrive and leave safely. Children should not be asked to go out to the car parking area alone at any time and parents must come into the building to collect their child.
FEES
TDA always aims to keep prices of classes as low as possible so that students can enjoy multiple classes each week and so more children can enjoy participating in the performing arts. We provide outstanding service and facilities for our students while still maintaining competitive prices with other dance studios in the area. Details of these dance fees are available under our Fees Terms and Conditions.

COMPULSORY COSTUME LEVIES
Each class will perform in the concerts in June and December and a costume levy must be paid. For every dance and acrobatic class the student takes in each term, a costume levy will be collected to pay for concert/performance costumes. If your child will not be participating in the concert and you notify the office of this BEFORE the costume has been ordered, you will be entitled to a refund of all levies paid. Deadline for Mid-Year Concert is April 30 and End of Year Concert is August 31, 2025. All costume hire money is non-refundable after these dates as costumes/materials/trimmings will have been ordered and if a student drops out of class, a costume will have been made or purchased for that student.
UNLIMITED CLASSES
For those students who just cannot get enough of performing or for those who are training for a career in the performing arts, our unlimited class package is available for a significantly discounted rate. TDA unlimited package entitles our dedicated and motivated students the opportunity to take UNLIMITED classes each week. The Family Unlimited Package also offers considerable savings to families with multiple children attending the school. These packages do not include Private Lessons but do include any group classes listed on the timetable.
PAYMENT OF FEES
All fees will be processed through DSP Merchant Services and will require the registration of a credit/debit card on parents profile. Yearly fees will be spread evenly over 40 weeks so that all fees will be paid in full by mid-November 2025. All other charges including costume hire, competition fees, uniform purchases, etc will be run through our DSP merchandise store and will also be paid via credit/debit card. Payments schedule can be either weekly or fortnightly and can be negotiated with management. Any failed payment will receive a $10 fee to cover bank charges.
HOW TO PAY FEES

DIFFICULTY IN MEETING FEE DEADLINES
If at any time there is difficulty in meeting payment deadlines please feel free to discuss a payment plan with the office. Please do this BEFORE the scheduled auto pay dates.
PAYING BY CASH If paying fees by cash this must be done at the office. Upon payment of any portion of the fees a receipt will be issued. No payment will be credited against amounts outstanding unless a receipt has been issued.
PAYING BY INTERNET TRANSFER
If you are paying by internet transfer, you MUST ensure that you reference your payment online by using the invoice number and/or surname as the description. If you do not reference your payment as requested, your fees will not be able to be applied to your account. This may mean that you could miss the deadline for early payment or be charged late fee, so please make sure that your referencing is correct. If a copy of internet transfer receipt is presented to the office the relative receipt will be issued.
VIEWING OF CLASSES
All classes are closed. Regular viewing by parents is entirely at the discretion of teachers. Please be aware that a disruptive audience makes for a disruptive class and it is at the teacher's discretion whether such audience members remain in the classroom.
EXAMS / SCHOLARSHIPS
Exams are held towards the end of Term 2 (May/June of each year). All Jazz, Tap and Classical students from Junior classes and above will be considered to learn set exam syllabus. Not all students will sit exams for various reasons and this will be decided between teacher, parent and student. Additional weekly exam classes and exam workshops are held during Term 1 holidays. It is compulsory that students who commit to exams attend these.
Exams are an important part of our curriculum, it is an industry benchmark whereby students, parents and teachers can assess progress and is also important if students wish to continue with dance studies in another course.
Exam uniform for Jazz/Tap is:
- Female students to wear studio leotard and matte skin tone tights with appropriate footwear. Hair is to be in a bun, no jewellery or make-up
- Male students - same uniform as per class
Exam uniform for Classical is:

EISTEDDFODS / COMPETITIONS / DANCE DISPLAYS
We take part in several Eisteddfods throughout each year which are compulsory for all troupe members. We also take part in various local dance displays, these are not compulsory. Once a student has reached the required standard for this work an invitation is issued to both them and their parents to take part in this programme.
- Students must be up to date with all their normal class work and have demonstrated that they are prepared to practice and have an ability to take on more work.
- Parents must agree with their taking part in this programme. There is an additional cost involved. Weekly troupe classes and privates for solo/duos/trios are essential and must be arranged with the teaching staff at a time to suit all parties. Additional troupe practices may be timetabled throughout the year.
- AT NO TIME must school work or home life suffer as a result of the extra work.
CLASS PLACEMENT
Class placement is based on ability and not age.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons are available with TDA staff. Private lessons can be used to work on technique, for additional assistance with class work or a facility for students to learn routines for solo competition when they are deemed ready to do so. If you would like information about private lessons, please contact the office; do not contact the teacher directly. We are now accepting private lesson students and also organising classes with members of the TDA staff; please contact Miss Vicki on 0418 626 987 if you would like to book a lesson.
Private classes are a privilege - not an expectation. If a student's level of participation, attendance or general attitude in class falls below that expected by our staff then privates will be forfeited and allocated to another student.
Notice of 24 hours is required for cancellation of any private lesson or class will be charged at full amount. Privates must be paid at the commencement of each class.
For students over 10 years of age no parent is permitted in a private class. For younger students this rule comes into effect once a routine is set and there is no need for any parent to attend private classes. The only exception will be when permission is granted by the teacher. The ability to remember a routine is as much a part of the solo process of is the performance.
PHOTOGRAPHY OF STUDENTS
Photographs taken by authorised TDA Staff and/or by Professional Photographers of students may be displayed within the dance studio. Parental permission to use these for marketing purposes and external use form part of our enrolment procedure.
ENROLMENT INFO
Classes fill up quickly, so it is important that you try to enrol as soon as registration has opened, to give yourself the best chance of finding a place in your favourite class.
Enrolment is available via our online portal in Dance Studio Pro. Link is available from the office or on our website. Once a class is full, you will be put onto the waiting list and will only be able to take that class if a position opens up. The maximum number in each class depends on the age of the students and the style of the class.
ENROLMENT & INSURANCE FEE
All students are required to pay an enrolment and insurance fee of $40 per student ($30 for 2nd and subsequent children in a family) to cover the cost of handling of invoices, newsletters, insurances and intellectual property fees for music.
TRIAL CLASS
If students wish to trial a class, they may do so, without enrolling in it. A casual fee of $20 per class is charged. This amount will be deducted from outstanding term fee if student decides to enrol in that class. A place in the class is not guaranteed until the student enrols in the class. There are no free trial classes with the exception of Bring A Friend Weeks.
CANCELLING CLASSES
If a student enrols in a class (any class) it will be assumed by our administration that they will be participating in that class for the whole term. If a student ceases to attend classes but neglects to notify the office, fees will continue to be charged until notification has been made as the position is being held in the class.
WAIVERS & POLICIES
Upon enrolment, a parent or guardian will be asked to sign a declaration stating that they have read and understand all of the important information in this handbook and the Fees Terms and Conditions document.
SOLO STUDENTS
Privates classes for solo/duos/trios are essential and must be arranged on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Private lessons are to learn and improve routines for solo competition when students are ready to do so. Solo classes are a privilege - not an expectation and must be taken on a regular basis. If these are consistently cancelled students may forfeit their right to use TDA solo choreography. All choreography provided by TDA remains the exclusive property of TDA and credit must be attributed to TDA. Choreography cannot be used by students at any public performance without TDA managements permission.
